For those with the High-Flow Cats installed....

I bought the maggie high flow cats, but am having trouble finding someone to install them here in Ohio.

Just wondering if they just weld in a new section of pipe where the old cats were, or do they rebend everything from the manifold to a few inches past the 2nd set of O2 sensors?

Thanks.

I had my maganflow high flows put on after my long tubes, so all new exhaust had to be made anyway, but since you have factory exhaust, Ive seen then weld a new section from the manifold to the mag cats and connect it back to the factory pipe.

High flows

I had a difficult time also when I tried to find a shop to install my high flows.I went to three different shops before I found one that would install them for me,but it was just luck, the mechanic that did my install did an excellent professional job on my truck.I believe the federal laws covering removal of factory emission control equipment and the very large fines that go w/ those laws is why you are having a difficult time finding a shop that will install your high flows.Alot of shops simply wont do it because of fear of getting caught and fined.Dont give up,there are shops that will install your high flows and you wont be disappointed w/ the sound and perfromance you get from them.Good luck w/ your exhaust.

Well, if your cats get "mysteriously damaged" they will have to replace them due to those same federal laws.

But will most places say that if it had 4 cats, it has to be replaced with 4 cats?

Anyone know if by law 4 cats must be replaced with 4?

Am I thinking correctly by asking them to replace everything from manifold to past the convertors? or is there an obvious and better way to do it?

I have all factory pipes on my '97 but it actually doesn't look in bad shape.

Would it be a bad idea for them to just unbolt it and patch these cats in with the age on all my pipe?

Cats

Stealth, that is a very interesting and resourceful answer to his problem,I would have never thought of it,mysterious damage,I love it.As far as your cat problem, does your state require your vehicle to be inspected once a year and display an inspection sticker? If they do,find out exactly what the state laws are on vehicle eqipment, and go from there.in my state,TX.so far they are very easy,as long as you have cats, your ok,we dont have the sniffer test, yet but we keep hearing that a smog sticker is on the way, like in CA.Again, you'll just have to hunt down a shop that will remove your factory cats and install your new ones.It sounds like enforcement is much stricter in your state.I wish I had better advice for you other than keep looking, but I dont.Which ever way you go,good luck w/ your exhaust.

We do not have emissions test and things like that here.

However, if I'm not mistaken it is a $10,000 fine to remove working cats. I guess if I were a mechanic the size of that fine would would make me a little hesitant to do the work too.
