Difference between 4x9 oval vs 5x8 oval maggies

Just wondering which would be louder? I'm thinking of switching out my 18" magnaflow for something with a little bit more sound. My friends Ram and Avalanche sound better stock than mine with the 18" still too quiet, yet I want to avoid redneck loud.

I'm looking at the 14" Magnaflows (11236 vs 12226). Ones a 4x9 the other is a 5x8. What's the difference? Both have a 14 body length.

i may be wrong but i think its just for displacement purposes, location when installing. sometime a shorter, wider muffler fits better then a taller thinner one. they are both straight through design so i doubt there is much of a sound difference. but again, i may be wrong.

Thumbs up Called Magnaflow

When I called Magnaflow about this quesion, the rep told me that the smaller one is a tad bit louder and that is about it. So the 4x9x14 would be a little bit louder.

With all of this being said, I'm going to swap out my 18" 5x9 Magnaflow for a 14" 4x9 Magnaflow muffler. I want more sound!
