I have a 97 4.6l v8 with a flowmaster 40 series muffler that exits out the side in front of my back right tire and its not loud a all...I was then told that I could cut off my resonators and replace them with pipe but then i went to a muffler shop where he told me i dont have resonators, do you think that high flow cats would increse my sound, and do you think i could pass inspection if I cut 2 of my 4 catts off and replace with pipe?

I took all of my cats off and lost a lot of low end torque. Then, I put high flows on and now I love it, defenetly will make it louder too...

 

i have an 03 5.4, true duals with an x pipe, magnaflow muffler, 2.5'' pipes and high flow cats. w/ 2 high flow cats, your truck will run CLEANER emissions wise, and sound a hell of a lot better, too. As I personally run these cats, i can say i got no cel, or problems with emissions.

 

are there 2 cats or 4?

 

is that "2" Magnaflow Mufflers or just a single muffler? I want to do a similar setup using the MotoBlue Mid pipe with Hi-Flow Cats & dual mufflers.

 

I had the same problem with the same set-up as you and I added a manual cut-out. It makes it sound 100% meaner, I love it. I will be cutting off my 4 cats and replacing with 2 hi flow once I get some other stuff done.
