Can I use a different filter on a K&N Air Intake??

I got a great price on a FIPK air intake from K&N off of Ebay. I have a body lift on the truck that I had to mod (the Air intake) to make it fit.

My question is, the filter seems to be rubbing on the plate where the old stock filter and casing use to sit, thus adding wear to the filter itself.

Can I replace the K&N air filter from the intake itself with a filter that is not a K&N. Reason being, I like the K&N filters but I've hear good things about the Airraid intakes. I don't want to buy a whole new intake itself, would like to use what I have. I'm just wondering if I buy a new filter from a different maunfacturer (like Airraid), if I can just swap out the filter and use the same intake?

Has anyone done this and does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,

If swapping out your oiled cotton filter, I would go for a synthetic oil-free filter, one of these would be great:

NeverOil from Outlaw Power
ProDry from AFE
DryFlow from AEM
