Headers?

I am doing a total exhaust overhaul on my 98 Extended Cab 4.6, I am getting 2 flowmaster 40 series mufflers. But I have been thinking. If I were to purchase headers instead of getting two mufflers and just get one 40 series and replace the muffler i have now. I have a 40 (si/do) but it was poorly welded on so it leaks really bad and has a few holes in it. But would the new headers make it any louder and more hp?

is this a good decision?

headers really arent worth the money. most people who put aftermarket headers have no noticeable power gains and ive even heard of some people whose 0-60 times went down after getting new headers. if i were you id focus more on an exhaust system and an air intake. this improves air coming into and going out of your engine. if you want sound, get the two mufflers. if you want performance, get one muffler and an air intake system.

Im about to up the performance on my truck too. Im getting a SIDO flowmaster super44 muffler with two tips, a k&n air intake, and im also going to get an edge tuner.
