I thought it was pretty well documented that the Flowmaster reduces low end power.

The reason is Flowmaster is a baffled muffler, the magnaflow is a flow through glass pack muffler. Try searching google images for a cut away, it'll make it easier to understand.

Pick the exhuast you think sounds best, personally I think MF sounds like chit, so I bought the FM. The power gains(or losses) are really negligible on a stock truck, I feel it doesn't matter which you go with.

I think so, it's smooth and starting to blotch, I was gonna try RP's suggestion of the Aerospace 303.

i have a flowmaster now, but i do a lot of towing. but anyway, i dont think the aerospace will work. if it is like mine anyway. i cant get it to actually look darker, and match. every time i put any kind of dressing on it, it absorbs it and looks smudged. if you try it let me know how it turns out.

I like Flowmasters sound best, it gives you a good deep idle and sounds great taking off. They dont always rob you of power, if the exhaust is done right it will sound good & work right. Removing your pre-cats and replacing them with regular pipes will increase your sound and possible help a little with some power. Along with a CIA.

Magnaflow is made of stainless steel and will last you a very long time, and doesn't drone as much because it is contructed better and you mostly hear it when you go heavy on the gas. Which most people prefer. But me, I like to be heard deep & loud all the time so I prefer Flowmaster 40

I don't think I'd put a penny out for an exhaust that causes any torque loss. Negligible or not. Especially on the newer heavier trucks.

links are fixed... so adding long tube headers and NO CATS to a flowmaster would help with torque???? but how much sound change would happen?

(i am wondering because I have the flowmaster on now and it has the perfect sound <after the tune> and I am considering going to a magnaflow after i install the headers since I am afraid of the flowmaster sounding like crap and becoming too loud)

i bought a magnaflow single 3" in 3" out from troyer since they claim that is the best muffler for performance for our trucks i just haven't stuck it on yet because I like the flowmaster right now I just don't want it any louder maybe I should dyno the truck with each muffler and see what the torque and power does since NOBODY has ever posted a dynograph on similar vehicles so we can compare the 2 mufflers

I have the Flowmaster 40 for the sound. I bought it before I ever did any research on the subject. I could feel a slight loss of low end power, ordered an Edge and that solved that problem, plus a lot more. I love the sound, would not mess with a Magnaflow.

i had a hypertech and the truck ran fine but i wanted more so I got an Xcal2 and a custom tune for 24# injectors I am waiting to get home so I can run the new tunes. I know long tube headers are next but I don't want anymore volume out of my flowmaster that's why i purchased the maggie my buddy had magnaflow on his lighting and it sounded decent and I can live with the sound and I think lack of cats or highflow cats would make the magnaflow sound similaer to my flowmaster with a tuner...
