it is a section you can buy that welds into your exhaust,it lets you channel the exhaust flow through your stock pipeing or you can block that off and have it shoot out the side "like straight pipes" basicly

Well no, but i sorta have some answers for you

I dont have a cutout, but i have run open Y pipe on my truck. My truck didnt like running open Y. It ran slower time at the track, and was even shifting funny without the back pressure it was used to.

I have two friends with 04+ (one 4.6 and one 5.4) trucks that didnt have the horrible performance issues that didnt notice it was a little sluggish.

But yea it will be louder....

Your not really blocking off the normal route for exhaust, your only making it easier to get the exhaust out of an additional exit.
the back pressure issue is dead horse thats been beaten many times so I wont go there, the more air you can get in and the more you can get out will help every bit in HP numbers, but you have to have additional engine mods to make good use of everything else. but as far as a cutout goes if you install after a cat you'll gain noise, most people install them before the cats to reduce restriction or so they dont have to remove exhaust systems for racing. I've only noticed my truck is more sluggish with my exhaust capped, as throttle response sucks compared to the-more open exhaust.

After running it open for 3 months, I closed it up because I couldnt hear myself think.

Do yourself a favor and get electric plates, cause the wing nuts, alum gasket and plate are a PITA.

Well i know my truck was acting funny, wasnt shifting properly, and ran .4-.6 seconds slower then my best times. And ive done an Efan mod since then so my time should have gone down.

Yes i agree more in means you need more out, but if i believe there is "Back pressure" to some extent b.c if i can push out twice what i put in, then it would take no resistance... Well its kinda hard to explain, but trust me i know what my truck was acting like w/o the exaust....

x2

you'll gain top end power only, eg. HP numbers, but you do tend to lose bottom end torque.

I installed a Summit Racing cutout before the muffler on my truck it seems to runs stronger with it open... but its too loud to drive it like that all the time.

I'd like to get an electric attachment for it but @ $150'ish I'll just do it manually for a while.

I've got a manual cutout from summit and I love it. Gave my truck a nice deep rumble, alot louder than my 40 series flows and i've had no issues so far.
