Exhaust tip question <---pic included

I feel dumb asking this question, but I'm an exhaust newbie. To me the tip wasn't what I was expecting. I was under the impression that my "clamp on" exhuast tip I purchased was designed to slip over the existing tailpipe. I bought a 2.5" inlet exhaust tip and it definately doesn't fit that way. It almost looks small enough to slip into the the exhaust pipe then clamp? I'm just at a loss and Summit didn't give any instructions...probably because most people are smart enough to do this on their own.

Thats not cool. What is your tip inside or outside diameter? This is the measurement you need to be concerned with.Obviously you want to be able to go right over your exhaust and be able to weld it not slip it inside of the pipe I am not sure of the measurement on the new fords so i can't help ya there.

I was just holding it in place for the picture. Guess I'll send it back for the next size up.
