Still thinking

I was in Advance Auto today and saw a Y pipe splitter. My question is, Would my 4.6 V8 sound better with a magnaflow or the Y pipe in place of a muffler. Numerous people have said louder and more aggressive with the Y pipe and with the magnaflow better tone and performance sound. But some cautioned me that with the Y pipe and no muffler a V8 sounds crappy.

I guess I want it to sound good but also get peoples attention, but not ear shattering loud.

Thanks!

I y piped my old truck and ran duels out with no muffler. It sounded pretty good. Sounds better and louder than magnaflows(arn't very loud). I'd go with the y pipe, you won't be sorry.

Thats what I was thinking skooba. My friend here at college is going for engine tech and anyways, he said because of the two cats, it'll muffle alot of the undesirable "backwoods" clang and bang and give just the best agressive and throaty sound i desire.

Mucho cheaper than buying a performance muffler too. I shouldn't have any backpressure troubles if i stick with 2.5" exits right?

Well I just saw a show on TV with a Flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler....what a great sound! Guess I'm caught up between

Flowmaster 50 series SUv
Magnaflow 14inch
y pipe duals with no muffler

decisions decisions!

Anymore comments on this?

Best sound, price wise.....performance?

I would go w/ 14in magnaflows. The flows do sound good though.
Cheack out www.peformancepeddler.com for mufflers cheap
Oh if you want performance go w/ maggies.I have flow 40's and they didn't do my low end power any favors

Hi kevin, yeah I heard that, I just got another recomendation from my buddy who has an 00 F150 he said Cherry bombs are really nice mufflers (if you can say they muffler the exhaust lol) and they shouldn't bother the low end at all. Whats the stock exhaust ID on the stock muffler on 97 F150s? is that 2 or 3 inch?

Thanks!

Mufflers

I just installed the FM 50 series,Delta flow,A little bit louder than the Magnaflow,it has a nice deep rumble @ idle and no drone @ highway speeds.I'm very pleased w/ the 50 FM.You might check it out.

Thank you skooba

Vincent, I was looking into the delta flow, I loved the sound of them, I'm looking for that deep rumble too. Esp at idle. How is driving around and when you put your foot down????

I have heard some sound clips of the cherrybombs and they sound pretty good.I may be wrong but i thought the stock exhaust size was 2 1/4.If you do go with flows have an x-pipe installed in it as close to the motor as possible if you go w/ true duels to help the low end

Is an x pipe installation add significantly to the final price, what I mean does a $30 part add $150 onto the installation?

Course i could do all this myself....my father and I can both weld. (MIG)
