It says you're supposed to disconnect the neg cable for at least 20 minutes, I'm pretty sure you can just go ahead and do it when ya get time.. it does reset the PCM, might prevent it throwing a CEL..

I read and reread the directions, and never saw where it said to disconnect the battery... Although I too have seen that written on here. I didn't do it, and haven't had a CEL. But I wonder if I'm not getting everything I could be out of it. I also have the 3" AF1. I'd like to know the answer too if anyone out there knows...

Thanks

For the time it takes, no reason not to. 5 minutes - disconnect & turn on the headlites to drain residual energy.

The other method is to remove the positive cable and touch it to the negative. I don't advocate that one myself. I prefer a gradual drain - no spikes that way.

Probably more benefit for the intake than the exhaust. Plus over time adaptive strategy activity will still achieve the same result -without a reset - just takes longer.

Actually... it's preferred to clear the CEL, if one is set, with a OBD-II tool (or tuner), to preserve the adaptive optimizations.

Cheers
Bubba

It just is meant to clear the KAM memory. Dosen't honestly matter if you do it or not. I put a MAC CAI on my truck and tuned it with a Predator without ever disconnecting the battery.

A lot of companies say to disconnect the battery for safety reasons too. I never do it. Just a waste of time for me.
