New Exhaust Questions

So now that my truck looks like a truck, I guess it's time to start looking into making it sound a little more like a truck.

Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about exhaust systems, mufflers, etc. I do know that I don't want to spend a fortune replacing my entire exhaust system, so I'm probably just looking at replacing the stock muffler.

I'm looking for something that sounds good with a nice deep, rich tone... yet is about a 3 or 4 on a scale of 1-10 on volume. I like a tough throaty roar at full throttle as much as anyone, but I don't want to listen to the rumble from inside the cab day after day. I work from my truck most of time, and quite a bit of that time is spent idling. So a gentle rumble is definitely in order there.

So far I'm leaning toward the Magnaflow... but that's where my confusion begins. So many sizes, shapes, lengths, widths, configurations. I'm thinking I'll be happy with a SISO as long as I can put a nice looking pipe coming straight out the back.

There are so many to choose from, I really don't even know where to start. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

From what I read, the Flowmaster robs torque so I went with a Magnaflow. That made up my mind on the brand.

go grad a 5X9 18" magnaflow and have an exhaust shop weld it in place of the old one. and then just tell them you want some nice pipes out the back

I was looking for the same sound you describe, I went with Borla.. not "wake the neighbors" loud, but a very nice deep rumble.. I couldn't be happier with it..

From information I recieved from Mike Troyer, the only exhaust system on the market that has increased performance without any torque loss throughout the rpm band is the magnaflow system. I will be ordering an XCAL II from him and will most likely change out my Banks system with a maggie.

hi, i have the maggie 16612 catback on mine and i couldnt be happier.
when crusing almost as quiet as stock when ya get on it mmmmmmmmmmmm what a sound lol
if u have a constant load on it , it will drone but i would say unless you were towing very heavy and going up hill this should mostly never happen.
soon as ya go into overdrive she quiet as a mouse.

vgl on your choice . maggie is the way to go!!!!

yeah you want to go Magnaflow

I'd say since your going si/so to sound aggresive like you had dual pipes but not be loud & noisey around the neighborhood get the 14" magnaflow muffler.

Is a SIDO muffler purely cosmetic? Is there any performance gain/loss with SIDO compared to a SISO? I assume the cost difference is just the extra pipe and tip to finish it off?

I bought a 12268 SIDO Magnaflow and had the muffler shop run the duals out the same side rear behind the tire...All welded...I like it a bunch...

I could wake up the neighborhood if I wanted to but just rumble through..For sure sounds good and get a look if I step on it...Cruising down the highway I don't hear it at all...Just like stock

I have gained so far about 1MPG and seemed to gain a little bottom end to it...maybe a slight increase in performance but definitely no decrease what so ever...

I have the magnaflow 16614 system.. I love it. It is SIDO and fits great and sounds great. And that is on a screw with a 6.5 bed... it isn't supposed to fit that model. The system + instalation at a muffler shop came to $510... well worth it.

I am not sure but from what I read on here that it is cosmetic.

I love my SIDO system:

I, too have the Mag SIDO on my truck, as I did on my '03 supercrew. Sounds great, quiet on the highway, good performance, everything that everyone else has said in this thread!..I got mine installed with SS Magnaflow tips for $350. Dont be afraid to call around as the muffler biz is pretty competitive. Ask to look at some welds that the shop has done before you agree to have it put on, though. I have seen some REALLY sloppy welding jobs by some shops
