Unhappy f150 with a 40 series flowmaster

hey all,

i installed a 40 series with a dump right around my rear axle yesterday. Drove from s.a. to austin. sounds echo to deep in my cab. unhappy crappy sound when take offs, untill over 3 or 5 rpms. well get better growls at 60 to 70 mph. If i pay someone to run to tailpipes out my back bumper with tips help ALOT or not. It has a 1 in two outlet chamber with a 3 inch dump toward the ground.

can anyone help me out!

on a supercab 4.6L

I have true dual 40's that dump in front of the axle. Someone told me that if I run tailpipes on back it will make it quieter, but I don't know. I think mine sounds bad on take off as well, but like the sound at idle and steady rpm's

ive got a 40 on my 4.6. when i had it installed. i ran a 3in tip out the back corner and after alittle while i decided it was just too quiet. so i dumped it right after the muffler. no turn downs or anything, its sounds great now. with a new muffler you typically have to break it in. give it a few weeks,. it will sound alot better. mine sound great right now, sets off car alarms!

get a tuner, even a canned tuner, hypertech, superchips etc. that will help out a huge amount and give you a couple ponies.

Talking I have 40 series

I have a 98 ford f150 with the 4.6L and i have a 40 series with tail pipes going straight out at the bumper. and the sound is crazy on my truck. it has this awesome glasspack pop with i hit the gas. the sound is alright when i get on it at a stop but at around 3 to 5 it sounds beastly. i am trying to get headers now and true duals. and a cold air intake.

Is a 40 series dumped to loud? I just don't want it to be as loud as straight pipes. I'm getting a 40 series dumped put on this saturday.

My Flow 40 is loud when accelerating and tapers off when I hit crusing speed, just like I wanted it to sound like. No drone to speak of either.

have the shop run tips out the back, a dumped si/do isn't the best dumping muffler. Running tips wont sound you down much, it will repair alot of your interior noise, but keep it loud outside

Thanks guys. I'm getting it dumped on saturday and if i don't like it i can always run pipes out the back. That is why i am going with the SIDO, so i have two options: dumped or pipes out the back.

I have an 02 with 40 series with 4" tips straight out the back. I have 2 separate mufflers. I think it sounds great. I'm gonna get 2 of my catalytic converters taken out soon to make it louder.

40 series dumped on my '95 4.9L I6

Yeah, its alright. I get alot of opinions on it, how it sounds louder than a v6. It's also standard so the low rpms have a low tone with a lil grunt/gargle to it. When it's idle you can't really notice it but when you 'hunker' down under the bed you can really hear the difference. Oh yeah and I also have a high flow cat that replaced my two stock cats.
How many mpgs do you think I got out of it? 1 or 2?

After I get the Clifford Headers I'll put a sound clip up on here so keep in touch if you'd like more info.
