Headers
Headers
I was considering several options over the next two summers. (college student, who wants performance and doesn't really care about cost).
I've heard a few positive things about hooker headers, shorties. However I have also heard a few things about JBA long tubed headers, as well as tuned length differences.
My truck is supertuned by my superchip. After an aftermarket upgrade, do I have to reprogram it?
I was planning to purchase an AF1 intake system, BBK throttle body, Bassani or Magnaflow exhaust both w/ x-pipe.
With all of the air/exhaust passageway being aftermarket, how much horsepower am I looking at.
AF1 20 TB 15 HH 30 Bex 30 Chip 25
120hp doesn't seem right?

Realisitcally no.
The two determining factor for you willbe your location (climate) and tuning.
An intake need exhaust to compliment it and promote flow. You WILL want to retune your superchip becuase your intake and exhaust values are going to change significantly. YOu will get a CEL when you change the headers. A tuner will fix this.
YOU can expect a 60 to 80 HP gain at the fly wheel, less 20% and you should se 40 to 50 hp at the rear wheels. YOu will definatel feel it though and it will breing a smile to your face when yo light her up.
Long tube vs short tube, you willbe dealing with significant temerature increases under the hood as well as a much louder exhaust note. It will be annoying when towing. Budget for some dynomat in the cab to off set this.
Other wise
Good Luck!

You have a 97... not the best engine to make power, but it will. I gained 30hp and 35ftlbs from my dynatech long tubes. Go with stainless steel, do not waste your money on shorty headers, they gain you absolutely no power or torque. I wouldn't bother wrapping them either...
So would it be wise to reprogram my truck after every aftermarket upgrade with my superchip?
I don't know how it would know that the upgrade would even be on there beings that you dont have to start the truck.
