Upgrade from stock

Hello again all, I may be having a phase but I figured I'd ask here first. My '97 F150, I want to "upgrade". My friend installed a throttle body and cold air intake on his truck a while back and I was wondering if that is the best thing to do for a "mean" sounding engine with plenty of power. I also heard from a friend the mention of a supercharger. I also plan to straight pipe it out the back, and get ride of that before the wheel OEM exhaust. Basically, what I want to do is make this a worthwhile upgrade that will make this truck meaner, IE: biggest bang for my buck. What do you folks suggest?

Thanks!

Dustin

Even though no one has replied, I figured I'd add some input I've discovered.

For the cold air induction, almost all my motor head friends said get the induction, but also get a throttle body upgrade with spacer. And dualing the exhaust will really make it scream. I mentioned the use of a 'chip' but that was shot down by a guy who chipped his truck and it ruined his torque converter. And I don't want that to happen, especially since it was like he "paid" to ruin a part.
