Magnaflow 16616 Baby!

I recently ordered the Magnaflow 16616 "Lightning Style" exhaust for my 2005 SCrew 4x4. It came in last weekend, and I was able to get to my buddies shop to install it last night.

Let me first say I am 100% pleased with the sound and appearance of the system, however I think Magnaflow gave me the wrong size connector pipe. When it was all said and done, I had to cut about 4 inches off of the connector pipe sent with the kit. No big deal, just a pain in the a!

After cutting the pipe, the system lined up perfectly to the old hanger locations, and after taking a wrench to it, walla...new exhaust. (I guess the whole install took me about an hour, twenty minutes of which was pulling the old exhaust out)

After reading through some threads I was concerned the system was going to be quieter than I really wanted it to be. Not so. It is deep and aggressive under acceleration, and quiets down nicely while cruising. I rode around all last night with my radio off so I could hear the exhaust. I felt like a teenager. (it was pathetic)

When my little bro gets in town from school (next weekend) I will have him help me grab some sound clips to post.

I'm sure it only added a few hp, but it must make a difference because for the first time since owning this truck I can tell I have a 5.4 V8 under the hood.

One other thought, I expect my gas mileage to go down after adding this exhaust.....because my foot will probably become like a lead weight.

For anyone considering installing this system yourself it is not rocket science, however I was fortunate to be at a shop with access to a vice, airtools etc. which made life much easier.

Give it some "break-in" time. I've had my system on for about 18,000 miles or so, and mine has gotten louder then when installed. I know my gas mileage is down due to an increase in weight on my right foot. Congrats on the new install...

Question You say the Mid Pipe is too long.
What Bed do you have on this truck?

Same with mine and several others I have installed for customers.
I was told by Magnaflow that the pipe is sent long intentionally so it can be used on several different vehicle configurations. You can cut it if necessary as you had to do.....Mine has gotten progressively louder over the 1 1/2 years that it has been on..They as all Magnaflow units are quality built and easily installed....enjoy it...

Congrats on the sweet Magnaflow sound. When I can keep my foot out of it, I actually picked up almost 1.5 MPG.

I've had my #16616 on for about 8 months and I never-ever noticed a increase in mpg's. That could be my right foot though, I love the sound I get with hard acceleration. Give it about 15,000 miles and it gets a little louder, mine actually drones a little at 70-75, but I could care less, you can still carry on a conversation and/or crank the cd just a tad.

Mine was WAYYYYY too long. The extension pipe was 21", and I had to cut it down to 14 1/8". Cutting was no big deal though. Measure twice, etc. etc. Install was easy except I would recommend a longer threaded hanger bolt. It's short and not exceptionally clear as to how to install it into the shackle. Otherwise, love the exhaust. Looks and sounds great. And on the instructions, I'd not cut the exhaust. It can be threaded out intact with the help of a floor jack. Never know if you're gonna need to install that heavy a** mess again.
Mine is the 5.5' bed on a supercrew.

Pics. of install in my gallery.

If you don't have tuning, get some. I had a '97 4.6L XLT forever and felt it was snappier than my 5.4L. I have an '04 Lariat Screw 4X4 and it was an absolute slug prior to some tuning. Acceleration , shifting, everything better and way more responsive. Truly money well spent. Cheers on the new exhaust.

I have been trying to buy this exhaust system for my truck for weeks!!

Either everyone is out of stock or they want $650. I have found it at several places for slightly more then $500, but these seem to be the places that don't have it in stock. I budgeted $550 and can't justify more.

I have an order in with autopartswarehouse.com for a couple weeks and that has been a nightmare. Do Not Buy from this company. They took my order, charged my credit card, and then will not communicate with me. They have it it on back order, won't tell me when will ship, and won't let me cancel the order. So I'm in the process of doing a dispute with my credit card.

Any suggestions?? Being my truck is standard cab, short bed, I have limited systems available to me. I am thinking about just buying muffler and doing my own system.

Have you checked with your local muffler shops? I had a SIDO Mag, mandrel bent tube, two 4x18 304 polished SS tips installed for $300.

Have you checked with Troyer? They have the 16617 on their website for $518.24. The 16617 is the one you need for standard cab, short bed. Don't no whether they have them in stock though.

Sorry Guys -
I went out of town this weekend and just got back to my computer.

I got the system from Performance Peddler. I offered $350, and they countered at $370. That price included shipping, and I couldn't pass up the deal.

I am pumped up about the sound. I had allot of people doing double takes when I came rumbling by them on the interstate.
