Turn-downs facing Axel
Turn-downs facing Axel
I bought a 2004 supercrew FX4 f150 2 days ago. I noticed the turn-downs on the exaust facing so that they blow just below the back axel.
I took it to a mechanic to get checked out and he said it would wear down the grease inside from the heat. truth to this? is this bad? Thanks

Exhaust dumps
I believe the mechanic misinformed you about the diff. lube in your rearend. Its a heavy weight,at least a 90W lube.I dont believe the temp. of the exhaust exiting from the cutouts will ever reach a point that it will burn or cook the lube out of your rear end.Can you imagine these temps.? I believe your truck would have to be on fire to reach them. You'll be fine where your dumps are at.If you want it a little quiter, run the pipes all the way out the back, over the axle.Hope this answered your question, good luck.
my father keeps telling me the same thing about my 56. the exhaust dumps just a few inches before the rear axle. only thing that sucks, is that the exhaust leaves spots on the rearend and the paint doesnt seem to want to stay on there. as for now, i will keep my setup the way it is
