Man, I was just thinking about doing the exact thing with my 06 F150 scab 4.6L!! i was going to enclose the filter though and run the duct to the fender well and down the front. Will the 4.6 have the same lean condition as the 5.4?

Engine size makes no difference. Doing a 'sewer pipe mod' ( which is essentially what this is ) can have adverse effects on the transfer function of the MAF that the PCM is expecting to see.

On your '06, how were you going to relocate/mount the MAF itself? This alone is a big deal - that location is critical.

You will not know for sure without logging.

I was going to make it the same distance from the filter as in the stock, as any other connection. I wouldn't exactly call this a sewer pipe though. the box and tube will be made out of SS with a plexiglass top for access to the filter. I know of a local place that does datalogging and can do a tune afterwards for me too.

 

This problem can occur in ALL vehicles that have the 'plug-in' type MAF. The older style ones that came as a whole round tube with the electrical wire in the middle didn't have this problem because no matter what size tubing or configuration of tubing you used, the MAF knew exactly how much air was going through it.

Take for example a tube that is 2 inches in diameter...let's say air is traveling past a certain point at 5mph...now let's take a tube that is 20 inches in diameter and say the air is traveling past that at 5mph...same reading from the MAF...A WHOLE lot more air going past. It's an exaguration sure, but you get the point.

 

May be running lean, but that sticker is worth at LEAST 10 MPH!!!!

I know this is a older thread but did you ever get any Air/Fuel numbers? Have you continued to run the intake without problems?

It did look cool. To bad we cant get numbers on it though.
