Gibson, does it stack up against the Magnaflow

Hey everyone, been a while since I posted here. I just bought a 07 FX2 Supercrew with the 5.4, and I pulled the Troyer tunes out of my trade in. So I will be sending the X Cal 2 back to Mike for a set of tunes for the 07, and will also get a AirForce1 Intake for it.

Now for the question, being forever a tightwad I am trying to decide on what exhaust to use. I would like to go with the Gibson SISO 3". How does it stack up against the Magnaflow SISO 3"? They are both 3" mandrel bent with a similar looking muffler, the only differences I can see are the 3.5" tip on the Gibson vs. the 4" tip on the Magnaflow, and the Gibson is alumanized pipe vs. stainless pipe on the Magnaflow. The only other difference is price, I can get the Gibson for about 150 less than the Magnaflow.

I use the Screw as my daily driver, and occasionally pull a boat, or my 65 F100 to the drags. Also I live in a very dry climate so is stainless really necessary? Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi.

I've had both.

The Gibbie was all-stainless 3" including the pipes... baffled muffler was HUGE. Quieter than Maggie, low end not as stout. Maggie sounded better ( t me). IMHO, spend the $$$ & get the Maggie.

As for the Xcal2 - no need to send it back. Everything can be done via email. Did that too. (Use LiveLoad to unlock the unit after returning it to stock & wait for the new tunes to arrive in your inbox).

Cheers
Bubba

I've had the Gibbson SISO stainless Side Swept for about 9mo. No resonance in the cab at any RMP/speed, but the sound it not very much louder than stock (which is good and bad).

Gibson exhaust

I installed a Gibson cat-back rear exit 3 inch exhaust system on my 2001 4X4 S-cab shortly after I bought the truck new Jan. 2001. The system has never given any trouble, installed perfectly (had to move the spare tire over towards the drivers side a bit) and is just starting to show a little rust along the weld seam of the 3 inch tube. i bought the aluminized version for cost savings since I live in the high desert here in New Mexico. The sound gets better with age as the muffler wears in but is not too loud and doesn't have the drone noise at highway speeds. The low noise was important to me since I tow a boat 186 miles to my favorite lake and didn't want to hear the drone for 3 hours on the highway. However there is plenty of roar when you get on it. I picked up 3 to 4 MPG after the system wore in. But like anything else, accessories are a matter of personal taste. If you like to hear the sound of your pipes go with the Maggies, if you like a more manageable tone go with the Gibson. I like the Gibson because its quiet at highway speeds but sounds off when you put your foot in it, which was the main reason I chose the Gibson system. Hope my opinion helps.
