I don't have a problem with supporting local business, but you are not getting a system that compares to a Magnflow or other system. Especially if you go with Magnaflow they don't use aluminzed pipe their systems are all stainless.
I have never been willing to spend the considerable extra cash for stainless pipe when the aluminized pipe lasts longer than I will own the truck. The part that usually rusts out, at least at first, is the muffler and it's stainless. I get the same sound and the same performance for a couple hundred bucks less. Plus, I didn't have to spend several hours laying on my back to have the system installed. I think it "compares" quite nicely thanks.

I am an estimator for a heavy civil construction outfit, and I can tell you that stainless prices have gone through the roof the last year (although they just peaked). Many suppliers raise their prices at the beginning of the year. As a contractor, we pass these costs on to the owner in our bids, and I am sure Mangnaflow does the same. At least a portion of the cost increases are due to material escalation.

Check it out for yourself,

Prices

Stainless has went up, absolutely....and that's part of the deal.

BUT, part of the prices you see online from Magnaflow dealers are due to Magnaflow's Minimum Advertised Price "MAP" policy. This has been around for awhile with Magnaflow and it used to mean that in order to be listed on Magnaflow's website as an online distributor, you had to be in compliance with their MAP policy. It has went through phases of being policed by Magnaflow and not being policed...

If you're looking for a deal on a Magnaflow system, call up an established online retailer with a good reputation and ask for it...

Yep indeed. I ebay'ed 15609 the day after I started this thread and found a guy out there somewhere selling the kit for about the same but not including shipping.
Thanks for the lead though!

Everything has gone up. Magnaflow is in Rancho Santa Margarita. That's CA. Nothing is cheap here, NOTHING. I called them a couple of times. They don't even sell to the public. So, I've ordered one, and it was delivered from PA (free shipping), even though they're about 25 minutes from me. And I skipped the CA sales tax. I agree with the statement about SS. It's gone up. Take a look at titanium. Record highs. Copper too.

Ummm, in case you skipped over a few posts in this thread, I was informed that I hadn't done enough searching. True enough, just got lazy. Checked for myself and can get the system using a discount code WAY below Maggies "price-fix" price.

I don't give a rat fart if Magnaflow is based in California or Kalamazoo. When ten different sites are advertising the same thing for the same price or just pennies apart, you know darn well that the manuf. is pulling a Sony and setting minimum prices.

You are aware that federal tax forms have an area to fill in for out of state purchases that were not taxed, right? You are aware that the IRS has been paying more attention to internet purchases that go out untaxed, right? But you won't get caught 'cause no one would be dumb enough to post it on a website, right? LOL Riiiiight.

I do reccomend staying away from aluminized pipe in any system I originally put a Dynomax aluminized system on my truck and it corroded off in about years.
X2 I had aluminized pipes bent for my Bronco and those POS pipes rotted out faster than any regular steel pipes I'd had prior on any vehicle.
Never ever, will I get aluminized anything again.

Too lazy to search for a deal but not to lazy to post about the IRS paying more attention to internet purchases that go out untaxed.

Very well articulated. Of course they're setting minimum prices. Whether you like it or not, where they're located will affect manufacturing costs. They have a popular product, it's costly to make. Obviously they're giving better prices to dealers. Don't like it, don't buy it. Not too worried about admitting I bought on the internet. Are you serious? LOL..... you made me laugh.

Just as an FYI, I went to Magnaflow yesterday. Very big operation. Very helpful too, as it seems my truck doesn't fit with any of their standard kits. Got my exhaust on and I'm very happy with it.

Wow, I think it is a first that I lucked out and purchased something at the right time for the right amount. I just installed my magnaflow sido kit from hottexhaust.com for $386 (I ordered it the last day in January). I love the exhaust, nice quality and sound. Pics at FTW in my gallery.

Wow those prices are high...I bought a Flowmaster 40 Series SIDO off ebay for $52 and had it installed with tips and 2.5" pipe with 4" tips and the total was under $210.
