Has anybody done this

I have a 98 with a 5.4 and i put a cat-back on it and i am not that happy with it so i was thinking about cutting the pipe and running true dual all the way back with either straight pipe or round magnaflows. If u have done this can u tell me how it sounds.

I know with no mufflers it will be way louder with no deep tone.

I just took my muffler off right behind the cat. I think that it sounds pretty good.. It good that loud and poppin sound which is something that I like. I will be running straight back into duals later once i get the money

Exhaust

I cut my pipe @ the "y",ran two seperate pieces of pipe(2.5" dia.) into a Magnaflow X pipe, into 2 40 series FM and dumped the exhaust right in front of the rear bumoer,no tips.Last month I installed my high flow cats and that really opened up the exhaust. My truck has a nice deep throaty rumble @ idle and you really hear the X pipe with the cats and FMs.It sounds great and runs even better,I get a slight drone, but thats common w/ FMs.Hope this helped, good luck.

High flow cats

I installed the Magnaflow cats,I paid $85.00 apiece on e-bay.I had the 4 cats, I removed them and had the two installed.Leave your rear O2 sensors in and you wont get a cel.I've been running them for a month now and they are great.Good luck w/ your exhaust.

My old truck was a 98 but with a 4.6litre and i took 2.5" off each cat all the way back to the back corners and put into 4" tips and it sounded really deep and loud. The first couple minutes before the pipes get warmed up they rap a little bit. But I was really happy with it.

Would it be smarter to just take the muffler off and use a Y pipe in place of it before I spend all the money on running true duals? How much difference would there be between that and running true duals?
