I just got the go ahead that I can finally get a new exhaust on my truck. Since I'd rather go louder I was thinking about going with a flowmaster 40 series, but I'm not sure if I should get true duals or two pipes out of the one muffler. What are the advantages of true duals and disadvantages?

 

I went with a original 40 series muffler, 3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlet. I ran 2.5" dual pipes back and had them turned out at the bumper corners.....it has a great sound, and very little drone. I am very pleased with the sound and the 4" chrome tips look great. Either way I'm sure you will be happy with the setup. However the true duals will cost more with the extra pipe and having to purchase two mufflers.

All I have performance wise is the edge evolution, and a drop in K&N filter. I had a flowmaster on my old F-150 with dual's out of the one muffler, but I always wished it was a little louder. I really just want to know the major differences between the true duals and just the two pipes out of the one muffler.

 

Well, I went from stock to true dual, so I can't comment on how true dual compares to SIDO. If you listened to my sound clips you can tell the true dual is pretty loud though.

True Duals with si/so mufflers and an x pipe about 3ft before the mufflers will give you a good 50/50 divided sound with less annoying poping and sound good with a nice rumble, si/do will sound louder but not as deep, my F250 has a 40 si/do and is louder than it is deeper, but also another way to make your truck louder is going under & chopping out the 2 pre-cats & replacing them with 2.5" piping, all they are doing is keeping your truck quieter.

 

well the precats do actually help to lower emissions, but they will not affect the computer/ engine negatively if you remove them. And yes it will be louder without them. But if you have 06+ you already dont have them from the factory
