Precats Question

I am considering gutting my precats. I have several questions for those who have done it. Does it gain or lose torque? Does it crackle and pop alot more? I have an extended cab 2000 so can I do it without any cutting or welding? and is it really worth it (overall sound and performance)?

Thanks alot.

it will gain sound, but you will lose torque, so do this, chop the pre-cats out & have 2.5" piping welded inplace

not a noticable loss in torque, noticed top end power b.c it could push exaust easier. will be louder, and will be more "pops" if you just gut them. And make sure you can weld really good to close everything back up b.c ive got a tick or two of exaust leaks.

I've got gutted pre-cats, Magnaflow high-flows with an X-pipe and two tiny Magnaflow race mufflers on a true dual system. Maybe with streetable mufflers they pop, but I don't notice any popping on my setup.

Thanks guys. I switched to an imco extreme from a magnaflow 14" (can barely hear it over the iroks) and i hate the loss of torque. I want to gain some back but keep the loud sound. I guess gutted precats isn't the answer.

Hey built, did you cut and weld the cats or could you just take them off and scape them? Thanks
