Intake and Exhaust Question

All,

I have a fully stock ('06 5.4 S-Crew 4x4) that I would like to add an after market intake system and an exhaust system. I have pretty much decided on the K & N Cold Air for the intake but I am lost in regards to the exhaust. Any other solutions out there that I should consider?

I would like to keep the exhaust system to under $500. I am new to Ford and really new to the after-market segment. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Regards,
~WC~

I'm in the same situation...getting exhaust and intake soon, but I have had the Edge for a while now.

Let me know what you decide on...I can't make up my mind on the exhaust or intake. I'm waiting to see some more results from Troyer's Dyno days from this past weekend.

Also there is a new "outlaw" intake that I am considering.

I am contemplating this exhaust from ebay:

or

I wonder what others have to say if anything about these exhaust systems.

What part of AL do you live? Where are you getting the exhaust done?

VJHPac,

I am in the Tuscaloosa area in Alabama. At this point, I have not decided on an exhaust vendor.

I have been looking at the Magnaflow, Corsa, Borla, and Flowmaster exhaust systems. Any personal experiences you would like to share?

Thanks!

I don't have any first hand experience with exhaust or intakes...only what I have read on here. From what I can gather, it looks like Magnaflow for performance and Flowmaster for sound. I just got this response from "Magnum Exhaust" on ebay about their Magnaflow system:

""
The part number I sell is 12198 which has a 14 inch body.
As for the cost. The auction already includes 45 degree stainless tips. The auction is $229.99 plus $40.00 for shipping plus $30.00 for the 2.5 inch mandrel upgrade. Which totals $299.99.
I usually charge 1.5 hours to install and my labor rate is 75 an hour. I don't know what the rate is in your area but 200 sure seems high to me. I make this so that the average person can install this themselves with basic tools. Sometimes shops will try to say the pipes don't fit and you need to buy something they have in order to install it. They don't like it when people bring in their own parts as they loose profit. So do you have any mechanical friends, a neighborhood gear head kid. Or I would sure shop around for a better shop than a $200 installation quote.

Thanks,
Dan

I think this is the route that I am going to take...$300 shipped for a mandrel bent system, 2.5" pipes and SS tips appears to be the best deal for a Magnaflow system that I can find. Depending on what's involved, I might try to get this and install it myself.

I installed a magnaflow on my 06 fx4 screw the other day. i love it. its deep and aggresive but not lame like the fartmasters. After all the debate over the cold air intake, i decided to go with the K&N 63 series. I figure all the cai produce ruffly the same hp increase, and the K&N doesnt throw a CEL. so thats my take. still out the door on the chips (dont wanna mess up the truck) but definitely go with the maggies and stick with ur K&N.

Don't forget the MBRP even though they are known for their Diesels, the single out for the 5.4L had a nice deep growl to it.

Either way you can't lose with the companies that you are contemplating.

I have an '06 Scab 4x4 and I got the Magnaflow Si/Do. Love the sound. Had a little trouble lining everything up since I have the tow pkg (search on here and you will find out what i'm talking about). I also have an Edge and I absolutely love that thing. I am considering the S&B intake that others have just purchased. Seems to be top notch quality.

I love my Magnaflow. I have a small spot of a drone right a 2k when everything is cold, once the truck gets up to full temp and the exhaust gets hot it goes away. The Mag had a low, deep rumble at idle and normal cruising, but really wakes up when you get on it. I had this installed locally for $240. I don't know what # the Mag is, I went to a friends shop and told him I wanted a Mag, the pipe was mandrel bent. I bought 2 4x18 tips at www.fulllineexhaust.com for $60. $300 for all. On the 04+ trucks Mag claims +14 HP and 23 TQ. Throttle response was definately improved. I also picked up almost 1.5 MPG. I just wanted better sound, I didn't expect all these gains.

I had Flows on my last truck and the drone was too much to even think about putting them on this truck.

Hope this helps.

Hey Ian...please let me know where you got yours installed...I need to find an exhaust ASAP, but I have been quoted a lot more than that. Feel free to email me.

Thanks.
