X-pipe And H-pipe

i am familiar with both setups on exhaust systems. i have an x pipe system on my 56. i was just wondering if anyone has ever experimented and tried both setups at the same time on the same system. like perhaps having a crossover pipe before/after the x-pipe. i am wondering what type of effect this would have on the performance of the engine. never heard or seen anyone that has done this

The reason nobody has done this is because it's redundant. The purpose of an X or H pipe is to balance the exhaust.

I don't remember the difference between the two - but I think it's as simple as the crossovers started as H pipe, and somebody decided an X is better. There is an explanation in a performance engine building book I have at home.

X pipe will make more low end power, with more of a raspy sound. H pipe will give you a deeper sound.
