mufflers or straight pipe?

i have a 06 screw with 5.4. I want it to be louder, but not something the neighbours will call the cops on me for. i just want to change the muffler. which one sounds better? Anyone hear an 06 with 5.4 with just the mufflers replaced by pipe?

stock exhaust only has 1 pipe & 1 muffler, but running no muffler will be much louder ( especially dumped ) a muffler wont be as annoying & would sound deeper if a deep tone if your desire.

if you replace the muffler with only pipe, the neighbors are defininitely going to be calling the popo. not only this, but you will have a hard time getting your truck inspected without any mufflers on it. if you want the loudest sound from a muffler, just buy some glasspacks or cherry bombs. usually the shorter the length of these mufflers=the louder. i think they come in like 13", 15", 19" and 21". dont quote me on the actual lengths.

I've had my true dual set-up without mufflers for a while now. Great sound and no, I havn't had the cops called on me. As long as you don't go mashing it in the neighborhood you're fine. And as far as the inspection, you can have the straight pipe clamped in and just clamp the stock muffler back in when you need to. I had glasspacks before this, and prefer the "no mufflers" set-up hands down.

what does the sound of the glasspacks compare with the sound of straight pipe? I have the original 4 cat set-up, and i'm not dumping the exhaust. A freind installed flow 40's on a truck like mine, barely made a diff.

You shouldnt need to get rid of the muffler because it just doesnt sound good and you might lose some power. You should go with a muffler that could help the sound well.

glasspacks and cherrybombs sound like crap, imo. i used a 3" dynomax bullet muffler dumped on my 06 supercrew. nice deep sound, quiet at idle, really loud at WOT. sounds nothing like a glasspack. just my 2 cents.

Yeah glasspacks are a bit too horrid and annoying for my taste, I like a deep rumbling exhaust, It also depends on if you have emissions or not, if no, then go ahead with the pipe, if so, Flowmaster, Dynomax, or Magnaflow is what you need.

I've had true dual straight pipes on my 98 4.6 for a couple years now...it sounds great, but it can be too loud sometimes. As long as you don't get on it in the neighborhood, you should be good.

And if it ever gets too loud for your liking, go have a muffler welded in. Simple as that.
