test pipe
nothing huh? am i calling it by the wrong name? just going by what i've seen available for other vehicles. i am just looking to remove my cats and looking for something to replace them without having to weld the fitting off of the cat onto a pipe. seens like it would be a pain to gut the cats on the f150 because of the shape, its not just a straight cat.
A "test pipe" is the proper name for the pipe which replaces the catalytic converters. Also, they are only legal for off-road use (that's not really stopping me from running them on my twin turbo Nissan 300zx or my Saab 900 turbo).
From what I have researched, you are going to have to make your own test pipe. It's not really that hard. Unbolt you catalytic converters and remove the flanges with a hacksaw. Clean them up a little bit and weld them on to a new pipe cut and bent to size. Then cut a hole in one of your pipes for the sensor and weld a nut onto it.
Whatever you do, do not gut your cats. You do not gain any power from it. A gutted cat just acts as a giant chamber for your exhaust gases to bounce around in, which can actually reduce power and most definitely causes backfiring issues.
Personally, I just decided to leave all of my cats alone and just run true dual exhaust without muflers. I think it will save me the headache of my computer screwing up on me. My truck is my daily driver and my cars are my toys, so I need reliability.
