I have a 1997 F150 with the 4.2 liter V6. I want exhaust that will give a deep "V8" sound. But I am kind of on a budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Go to a muffler shop and see about some glass pack. I am not a big fan about them on a v8 but i think they would give a 6 cylinder a v8 sounf. And they usualy run about 35-40 dollars.

 

I have the 4.2L as well and I've done a lot of exhaust modifications. I've been through glass packs, custom jobs, cherry bombs, etc. None of them had that deep tone I wanted. Then I tried the Dynomax Super Turbo Duals. BEST thing I did to my truck. It has more tone than any other v6 I've heard. The single super turbos look restricted in the photos on the D-max website, but when I looked through my super turbo dual it was a straight through design. Listen to it on my myspace:

Sound clips really don't give you a great idea on tone. My truck actually has more tone than that. But it's just to give you an idea.

My friends at college thought my truck was a V8. Not kidding. Also, the price? Mine cost $280. Less than flowmasters or gibson dual systems. But if you're on a budget, go with the glasspacks for sure. They are the only mufflers that will come close. Good Luck,
