Volant problem

does anyone else have problems with the volant intake on he 04 5.4 motor. I know that it normal for the engine to sound much louder, but is it normal for it make a very loud drone in the cab at lower rpms when driving normal. I can hear the sound coming directly from the engine area and not the exhaust. It also seems to vibrate also. It cant be normal. other than that i love the power i have and the sound of the exhaust at WOT.

I recently installed one on my 06 and had some of the same noises that you are talking about. Mainly it happens during a passing situation, where you are cruising at a steady speed, then punch it to pass. I also get some vibration through the pedals. I'm wondering if during that heavy load, we are not getting the right air/fuel mixture. Just wanted to let you know that you were not alone. Let me know if you find a solution.

You might want to recheck all the mechanical connections. There was another poster that had a "drone" problem. He rechecked all mechanical connections, found the air tube was rubbing on something close to the tb.
I've had my Volant in for 5 months no unusual noises. When i punch it ,sounds like a 4 barrel under the hood. No noises at idle or highway(70 mph).

I decided to buy a K&N and see what difference it would make. It feels more powerful, has a much quicker throttle response, does not have ANY unpleasant noises, and it sounds really throaty at WOT. I am going to box up the Volant and sell it on ebay or to any one on here if they want it. It also has the ram air scoop.

I'm having the problems with my Voloant (2006 Screw 4x4). It has a seriously loud and head-numbing echo-roar when WOT, 70mph+ cruising, or hillclimbing. I'm going to re-check connections, rubbing, etc. If that doesn't fix it, I'm ditching the POS on Ebay or Craigslist. PLEASE let me know if anyone here has found a fix for this. Also, I am looking at the Outlaw Power, but will go with K&N if better. I NEED QUIET and don't want to hear the intake ever. Thanks guys.

thats really weird, ive never heard of an intake doing this. Try taking the box off from the filter and see if that changes the sound

slalomdude21,
I read somewhere (sorry I forgot) that your engine with the Volant will make the most power on the dyno with the Volant box lid removed. It will likely make more noise too.

If you want quiet, either stick with the stock system or go for a solid and well sealed system like the Banks Power or Outlaw Power intakes.

Since you already bought the Volant, you are likely not interested in buying another aftermarket intake. The best I can recommend with your Volant system is to make sure that the seal from the plastic box that mates to your inner fender is VERY WELL sealed with weather stripping. Sometimes it take a good two layers of weather stripping (like from Home Depot) to make sure it seals properly.
