Nitrous
Nitrous
Does anyone know what the average price for a 100-150 shot nitrous setup would cost? I'm looking at either NOS or Nitrous Express, but I kind of think it probably doesn't matter...it's all the same stuff.
Are you plan on using it in your truck?
Although most mainstream kits are virtually identical- and equally as bad, there are some options out there that are a lot safer, work better, and still don't cost a fortune.
My buddy has a 2003 Ranger 3.0 and he has a Race Tested (That's the brand, aka Wizards of NOS I believe in the USA) progressive, computer controlled system and it is MUCH smoother and safer for the engine. It is very user friendly, and has a lot of controls you can change to suit your needs.
I believe his total cost for the system was around $1,200, but I can check if you want.

Well, I used to have a Nitrous Express wet kit on my Mach 1, and I absolutely loved it. Now as far as price, it can get pretty expensive to run nitrous safely. On my mach I had and NX wet kit, the Gen-X2 upgrade kit, a MSD digital window switch, one renage colder spark plugs, and Focus fuel pump (larger than stock fuel pump), arming switch panel from steeda, and a remote bottle opener, not to mention the tunes that were required for it. Nitrous is NOT bad, when used properly, but can be very bad if used incorrectly. I used mine several times (at the track)with no ill effects, but after pruchasing all the proper equipment, tunning (on the dyno) and filling the bottle it can get pretty expensive. I looked up some current prices for the parts I had on my mach 1: NX wet kit-$580, Gen-x2 upgrade-$380, MSD digital window switch-$150, a custom dyno tune-$500-600, colder sparkplugs-$25, bigger fuel pump-$225 for a grand total of $1860-1960 just to get all the proper parts to have a safe nitrous setup.

Not knocking you, I'm sure it served you well... but especially for trucks, extended tranny, and better engine life a computer controlled system is the way to go.

did controlling it take some getting used to, yaeh, but I started out with the smallest jet (50shot) and worked my way up to the 125 shot. But there are deffinatley different routes to take depending on your application. Also I am new to the truck world, but have a long history of mustangs, and I know a lot of things are different. but just like you said, to run it safe, it can get expensive.

well heres my story: i want a lot of horsepower without spending a WHOLE lot of money. so that rules out superchargers and turbos for now...i am only 16 and my mom gave me the "you have enough horsepower so don't go buy anything else" speech, so i was wanting to fine something that wouldnt be completely obvious...and i know i should obey my parents but whats a few extra horses here or there?
im sorry but being 16 and not really knowing to much about it i would tell you to definitly STAY AWAY FROM NITROUS. especially if you are doing this behind there back. it isnt going to be a fun conversation when you have to explain why the truck doesnt work.

You've got plenty of time to grow up, get a job and save some money to do things right. If you don't know what you're doing with this kinda stuff you're gonna end up blowing your motor or doing other serious damage, then you'll be SOL and sans truck to boot.
