holes on bottom of stock intake

i toke of my stoke air intake to get to my alt and seen that theres like 5-8 drill holes on the bottom of my stock air intake... i have a 2004 5.4 v8... just wondering why there there..

I believe those are drain holes. I guess if water were to get in there, it would have a place to escape. I just read an article in a Ford Truck performance magazine, and it said those were drain holes, but it didn't elaborate. Hope this helps.
