If I was overly concerned about mileage I'd be driving a hybrid civic, not an F-150. I bought this truck because it's what I've always wanted and I can finally afford it. Screw the mileage. If I have to I'll buy a moped and drive it to and from work. Can't beat 75 mpg for under $2000!!!
Seriously though, if you drive slow and keep the rpms down, they don't do too bad for a 5,000+ lb truck. If you get an edge evo, you can monitor instant and average miles per gallon. That makes it Super easy to set your target gas mileage..... Just keep your eye on the instant readout, and adjust your accelerator petal to match your desired fuel mileage. If you can keep it around 16.5 - 17mpg going up hills, your fuel mileage will average 18+. Getting up to 65 going down the hills and getting down to 45 going back up will throw your mileage over 18mpg if you're lucky. I've done this a few times when driving down a seculeded road or in the middle of the night. It is stressful having to watch that edge so closely, but you'll burn 1/2 as much fuel as normal! It's all according to how hard you try, and how slow you go.
