AF1 Install Question - Extra Washer?

I received my AF1 3.0 kit yesterday and I have put together the various pieces in my house. After reading through the instructions, I have an extra 1 inch diameter black rubber washer that came in the bag with the black gromets and blue vibration isolater for under the heat shield.

It might go on the vibration isolater, but this is not clear from the pictures. (It looks like it will fit into the small slot if I force it on...)

If anyone is familiar with the purpose of this washer?

Thanks,

KR-Texas

I just sent an e-mail to Troyer suggesting they contact the manufacturer of the AF1 and modify their instructions. When I installed mine I had a rubber washer left over and there was no mention or illustration in the instructions explaining it. I called Troyer and they had to open up one of the kits to see what I was talking about and then found someone in their organization that was familar with the rubber washer and its intended use.

I ended up threading that 7/16" bolt twice, the second time to include the insulating washer.

Thanks. I missed the reference to the "extra washer" in the original AF1 Install post, even though I replied to it... Doh!!

I put the black washer under the heat shield and right on top of the blue vibration insulator. It fit perfectly over the white plastic ring in the center of the insulator and seemed to be doing something.

I put the clear plastic retainer washer between the 3" SS tube and the bracket to hold the upside down 7/16" bolt in place. Using the retainer, it sure made it easy to thread the bolt up into the tube. Right now, my tube is not touching the bracket at all because of the retainer washer.

On another note, I had a hard time seating the heat shield's hold-down lugs into the locking gormmets. The grommets kept pushing through the bottom of the bracket and falling onto the ground. I sprayed some WD-40 on them and the heat shield slid right in without a problem. They should add some kind of note in the instructions about lubricating the hold-downs or grommets for ease of assembly.

Thanks again for the reply,

KR-Texas
