Intakes (confused)

After reading several threads i have noticed there is pros and cons to almost every intake made. Is there any one thats has tried a couple on there truck. I have a basicly stock 01 excab 4x4 with the 5.4 i did put a cover on the bed and a 40 series flowmaster with dual tips and just put new tires size 285-70-17. (sounds good no performence increase noticed). I have been thinking about and intake for almost a year. But the more i read posts the more i woulnder if it is worth the money. My plan is to get a intake and programer looking at edge evo (i like the fact that it stays in truck and mounts to dash and moniters other stuff). The intake i would like is one that is not to loud and will not rob me of power or MPG and not break the bank. I will be towing a uhaul trailer from south TX. to WA. in Jan. Please any thing will help.

my F250 has a si/do Flowmaster system with a K&N intake and it hauls, sucks air in perfectly and sounds good on the take off
