Question Need help, tuning F150. Virgin Ford owner.

Hey everybody, I just purchased a 2001 F150 Supercrew, 4.6L. Sharp truck, can't complain at all about the way it drives or handles. But it does love gas, I get from 9-13 mpg. It looks like a previous owner has installed an after market dual exhaust (no name), other than that, no modifications. I spoke to a local tuner guy today and he recommended a cold air induction, tuner, and replacing the exhaust. He claimed I could get a 40hp increase and possibly 3-4 more mpg. Are these realistic claims? I pulled my buddy's boat last week and it could definitely stand to have 40 more horses under the hood when towing, and getting 60 more miles on a tank of gas wouldn't be bad either. I really don't know anything about tuning an engine. Any product suggestions and the been there done that's don't make the same mistakes I made would be greatly appreciated.

From: LOUISIANA,
I have the xcal 2 (custom tuned from Troyer performance) i love mine , it
made a noticable difference, but electric fans too me made the biggest.
with my mod's i get about 17-18mpg. The e-fans gave me almost 2 mpg by
them selves. Hope this helps.

hey Rajun

Forgive my ignorance, but how do the e-fans help HP and mpg? I really don't want to spend a lot of money, so what mods could I make that will give me biggest improvement? Or do I need to make most or all of them to get the maximum benefit?

i dont get how alot of 4.6Ls are worse on gas than my 5.4L, i'm pulling 15mpg with no mods exept spark plugs, but anyways,

e-fans ( electric fans ) run inplace of the stock fans that are used by the engine to cool itself. it takes octane to power then engine and the engine to work everything. without the engine working to cool itself it uses less octane. Hope thats a good description, if i'm wrong anybody feel free to correct me
