Warranty trouble with aftermarket exhaust?

I bought an 06 supercrew with the 4.6L a few months ago. I took it to the dealer for the complimentary oil change. I asked the service writer about aftermarket parts affecting my warranty. (Programmers, K&N filters, MAS, ect.) Mainly because I want more power. I don't really drive the truck hard, but my 99 Suburban has the 5.7 vortec and it really makes the truck feel weak on acceleration. He advised me to leave the truck alone until the warranty has expired. I am wanting to do exhaust to start off. Has anyone ever actually had trouble getting any kind of warranty work done to thier truck because of aftermaket parts. I don't think they could blame problems on the exhaust, but want to know what your personal experiences are. I bought the truck on Memorial Day and I already have 9k miles on it. The warranty will expire within a year or shortly there after so waiting wouldn't really be a problem. I doubt the truck will ever use the warranty anyway, but I want to make sure.

When you purchased the truck did you get the extended warranty that Ford introed? Im in the same boat with my 06, I cahnged my exhaust on my 02 and never had a problem with service at the dealer. I posted this question 2 weeks back try this www.magnusonproducts.com. hope this gives some clarity.

I don't understand what that link has to do with the warranty. I think you might have posted the wrong one. I didn't purchase the extended warranty. I have just the 3yr/36k that came with the truck. I had to fight with the finance people for 30min. to get that off. I got the lowest interest rate on the truck, but it was going to make the payment about $40 a month higher. I am not a real beliver in the ext. warranty. I have had experiences with them in the past where they didn't want to cover certain repairs.

I apologize I was inquiring if you had the basic warraty or the new enhanced basic with the 5yr 60 k powertrain? As for the exhaust my 02 was in the shop and was never denied warranty service and had the exhaust modded on it. Im going to have my 06 done as well. It might be a local dealer issue as I have a friend who also bought an 06 and said the dealer doesnt advise changing till warranty is up. The link was just a reference to show that the dealer and manufacturer needs to prove above and beyond that the modded part contributed to the service issue. Sorry for the confusion.

I have a K & N drop in and Flowmater SIDO. Had to have the throttle body replaced and then a reflash and they never mentioned my modifications. However, they did tell me that if I got a programmer, that it would void my warranty. I got it at 32,000 miles and have had no problems.

Thanks,
Joe

They hang down in brackets that came with them. There are small bolts that hold the bumper skin to the bumper, those were removed and the brackets were bolted to the bumper.

What he was trying to link, I believe, which I can't recall the exact name either, is something like the magnus Ferguson act. It basically states, that if you modify your truck and something happens, then you still have a right to the warranty unless the manufacturer can prove that the modification cuased the malfunction. I have a friend whose shop just dealt with something on this matter with a hypertech programmer and a 2003 Chevy dually diesel. The motor blew out, the chevy tech that was then working on it saw a hypertech box under the seat (why he was working on the motor under the seat is still a question) and GM instantly voided the warranty. $15,000 engine in the tank. Long story short, a year later, GM has had the core inspected (which my buddies shop had to pay $3500 to keep) and deemed it to have been their fault. Now, the number has gone from a $15,000 engine to a shad over $200,000 in attorneys fees, costs and associated fees.

The dealer told me that the computer mods and air intakes could void it. He didn't come out and say it, but I don't think he was really concerned about it though. He said they had a lot of Lightnings come in for warranty work that had all kinds of mods and had been driven in the ground. He said they had to crack down on what they would fix if the truck had been modified. They said it would be best to wait until the trucks warranty was expired just to be safe.

I would probably just put some Flowmaster mufflers on it for now, but I do eventually want to go with a full exhaust and headers. I do most of my own matainance, but if something happens under warranty, I want it fixed for free. I was curious how Ford had been to you guys on the warranty stuff. This is only my 2nd new truck. The 1st was a 2000 Chevy and was totalled with 13k miles and 6 months of life on it. Never had any kind of warranty work done to it.
