Stock Exhaust change Vs. Warranty
Stock Exhaust change Vs. Warranty
Anyone run into problems with there warranty after changing their stock exhaust? A guy I work with also bought an 06 and claimed the dealer said any exhaust mods voids the warranty. Fact or bull$#@% Appreciate any info and input
i forget what the name of the specific law is but there is a law that states that you can modify your vehicle and not void the warranty. the only time the warranty is void is if the modification made to the vehicle is responsible for whatever warranty work is being done. which means, say your buddy has a exhaust manifold leak, they would have to prove that the aftermarket exhaust is respnsible for the leak. so with that being said if your differential is leaking and they won't cover it simply because they say you have aftermarket exhaust. they are full of SH*&. hope this helps, and this is also why i hate warranties=(you never get what you pay for and trust me you pay for it)
It's the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT -US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312

However...keep in mind...Warranty decisions are basically on a dealer to dealer discressionary basis for the most part. Unless you get denied and escalate it to a Regional Manufacturer (Ford) Representative or higher.
Net/Net...there are dealers that understand items that have NO AFFECT on the warranty (like mufflers/duals/etc.) and some that will boot your request just because you have the wrong windshield wipers on the vehicle (just being descriptive here folks).
Main thing..find a good dealer (if not the one you bought the truck from) and develop a relationship with the Service Manager.
Keep in mind also...LOTS of threads here talking about gutting/eliminating CATs and such...which will get your Warranty tossed nearly EVERY time.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input just wanted to clarify before I do mine the guy I work with is a little strange about it. I dont -plan on gutting cats just my muffler. I have a pretty good relationship with the dealer. I have to take my truck in MOn so I feel the service manager out about the exhaust. I know they have modded cars and trucks in the past, so shouldnt be a big deal.
