AF1 vs. Airaid...

I have an Airaid intake on my 4.6L and everyone is talking about the AF1, I'm not sure switching to a different intake will make much difference if any... what are the main differences between the two? (where its mounted as far as air flow, etc) is there any performance difference? is there anything I should consider about these intakes other than performance? (cleaning, etc.) Thanks in advance everyone

Like you I have heard a lot of things positive about the AF1. I have never had one of those units....BUT.... My friend has one and he like's his. It's got a nice sound under acceleration, the AF1 you are looking at for your application have a heat shield? I have the Volant atermarket intake... Absolutley love it! It's in a sealed box, and the acceleration sound isnt as loud as an open style filter..... we took my truck put in my buddies AF1 and then ran another 1/4 mile with the volant...... I was quicker with the volant system, Cant remember the exact numbers..... but both runs were within 30min of one another...... we did that two different times, but used his truck the 2nd time and again the volant on his truck gave him a slighly better 1/4 than the AF1..... I can only figure it's cause the Volant is sealed, and pulls in cooler air from the fender. Again, Im not familiar with the newer AF1 systems as they may now offer a sealed unit, or one with a heatshield.... but I did wanna pass that little bit of info on to ya!

Hope it helps!
Tom

Appreciate the helpful info, it has a heat shield, not a sealed box but I'm not sure how much that helps. Anyone have any horsepower gains and losses from differing intakes?
