Running 3" from Cat/converter
Running 3" from Cat/converter
I am thinking about running 3" strait pipe from my cat/converter back on my '05 5.4L FX4 Crew Cab. Has anyone done this what kind of sound can I expect? I am looking for a low rumble, and not wanting a snappy sounding exhaust at all. Any help would be great.
Well picked it up and we ran 3" from the y-pipe back no muffler, and it sounds fantastic, nice low rumble, not super loud, but just enough sound to know your driving it : ) I would say thanks for the help, but I wasn't patient enough to wait to see if anyone had done this already. It set me back $160 Canadian so really 20 for labour, and the rest was material.
I just put in a Flowmaster Original 40 Series and replaced the stock pipe from the Y back with 3". Overall the complete system sounds great. I haven't heard one with just the muffler and not the bigger pipe so I don't have anyway to compare but I am very happy.
I just recently did a bit of exhaust work on my truck (89, 300 4.9L I6), what I did was, took off the muffler, and cut up and used existing pipe (2 1/4"), and made a straight pipe system after the catalytic converter, and made a turn down in front of the axle, and it sounds great!! I am very pleased, but I have been thinkin, would it be a bad idea to take it to the 3" straight pipe system? Would it sound better/worse? Would it give/take away from power?
