off the wall question

I was checking out the exhaust system on my friends Baja performance boat. It has something called 'Silent Choice' that allows him to switch the exhaust from quiet to very loud. This works on a boat because the exhaust can run either through the outdrive and out the prop hub under the water (thereby providing a quiet exhaust sound) or through the hull just above the water line (not much muffler, a lot louder, and better performance). The reason for the 'Silent Choice' switching system is that there are times when you don't want a really loud, obnoxious exhaust system. Maybe in a marina, or when you just want to cruise quietly.

So, my question: is there anything like this for my '05 F150? I'd like the sound and performance advantage of Flowmaster or similar system when I'm just out playing. But when I have a business guest in the truck, or I'm driving into the neighborhood late at night, I would want the quiet stock sound.

Is this possible? Maybe two different mufflers with some sort of cross-over valve? That's the basic set up on the boats from what I understand.

All you experts weigh in on whether this is even a feasible idea. I'm the first to admit that I know pretty much nothing about exhaust systems.

Thanks

Yeah...that's all i know about...if you put these electric cut outs on it...it will switch from the more restrictive route to the less restrictive route and could very well be possible to go from the stock exhaust to something like a flowmaster...keep researching and let us know what you find out...

Good luck..._motes

You could look for the Butterfly valves out of a C5 vette. Its what makes them near silent when idleing, and through about 2500-3000 rpms, and then WOT it screams loud.

You could either look for someone that has gotten new exaust, or you can put up a WTB thread

Its basically like a throttle body in the exuast, that its controlled how much air goes past, thus how loud it is. I believe they are near the very end of the car's tips. I dont know if you need some kind of controller to use them or what. But thats another option if you dont want to do cutouts.

Maybe there is a way tho that you could do a cut out set up that does like this...
