Flowmaster 40 Series Delta flow... Opinions???

Hey gang,

I am thinking about getting a Flowmaster 40 series Delta flow cat-back kit for my new 2006 Screw FX4. I was wondering what the general opinions are about this kit? Do any of you have this on your truck? If so, what is the sound level when driving on the highway? Will I go insane on a long drive? I am not sure if I should go this route or the 50 series SUV kit? I think the standard 40 series would be to loud. Anyway, I'd be curious to see what you all recommend/say about this kit. Thanks!

Los

the delta flow is a bit louder than the 50, louder than the 50 SUV for sure (50 SUV is a larger casing)

wouldnt be obnoxious at cruising

I think you could make the delta managable. I have an original 40, when it was dumped under the truck it was painful in the cab. Now it is piped out the side infront of the tire. This little section of pipe saved me. You can hear it in the cab at low rpms but it doesn't bother me at all.

If you get the delta and pipe it out the back i would think it would be quieter in the cab than my truck currently is. If i can stand it for long trips you should be fine.

I definately want dual pipes out the back. I would just really hate to spend the money on the 50 series SUV kit and be disappointed! I can't afford to switch it out if I am not happy. I am trying to get this done right the first time. Keep the opinions coming!!! Thanks to all!!!

The guy that made pipes for me said duals out the back wouldn't fit with the spare tire.
I doubt that's true and I bet a bunch of people here will post that they did it.

Sound is Subjective

Sound & Tone are really subjective: What sounds good to one guy can be too loud or too quiet to another. The first installation on my f150 was a dual outlet, Flwmstr 40 Delta Flow exiting in front of the RR tire. Looked great. Way too loud for me. A year later we did a single outlet 50 series exiting out the RR. After 5 years of that I put on a 70 series. I love it-don't need the noise attention-guess I'm getting old. Still has a nice deep subtle tone.

I put the 40 series Delta flow on my '02 screw today. they are piped out the side behind each rear wheel. At about 65mph with windows up and radio/air off I could here just enough rumble to know I have a nice exhaust system. It's louder with windows down (of course) off the start and at low rpm's like stated above. I like them a lot. One of my friends wife said she really likes them and wants my friend to put them on his truck because she says his are too loud.

As far as tone and volume, there's not a whole lot of difference between the delta flow 40's and the original 40's...the delta flow's in a stainless casing and is more expensive...

I went with the original 40's SIDO and had them turned down and out between the axel and spare tire on both sides... the rear tires hide the pipes and give you a real clean look...I love mine, at highway speeds, you really don't know that they're on there...

Good luck..._motes

I have the Original 40 Series SIDO coming out the corners of the bumper. It sounds really really good, especially when my truck is revved up pretty good.

I have the original 40 SIDO and the only time I know I it is at WOT and at 2,000 RPMS when there is a little resonance in the cab. At highway speeds I cannot hear it at all.

The 04 and up F150 have a pretty thick layer of sound deadning material on the floor of the cab. I dont think you will be able to go wrong with a 40 series with full pipes exiting the side behind the wheels, or all the way out the back.

Thats just my .02

I've got the 40 Series, and I think it's too quiet. The only time it bothers me is when I am towing up a hill where it isn't steep enough to come out of o/d, and it sits there at about 2000 RPM, and I have the radio down. Other than that, I love it. I actually want it louder. Also, my pipes are ran straight out the back, with 3 1/2" tips.

Well put Mike...I had a 50 Series SUV on my 98 and thought it was a little too loud...if I would go with Flowmaster again, it would be with the 70 Series...

If you can, go by a speedshop and see if they have a vehicle with a 40 Series Delta...I found a shop that had a truck with a Magnaflow catback system that I was considering...it really helped me with my decision...

I thought about getting the Delta Flow but I ended up going with the Original 40 Series. I thought it would be to loud but it is just right. The only drone I get at high speeds is when accelerating. Do get a little at slower speeds also. Nothing that is to loud. My wife doesn't complain at all about the sound in the cab so it must not be to bad.
