Which Intake: TrueFlow or Fram Boost?

I have heard the advantages and disadvantages between TrueFlow Intakes vs. Fram Boost Intakes. Fram seems like a good intake like a regualr K&N intake except with a dry filter, but TrueFlow uses the facotry airbox, keeping mud/water off the foam filter, but you replace the intake tube.

Any experience with these two intake systems, which would be better?

Take a look at an AEM Brute force. it has a heat sheld that keeps most of the stuff off. It is also a dry filter. Also there is a K&N cover that you can get to put over the filter element and it kept water out (to some degree) from what I have read.

foam filters like trueflow have been used well in high particulate environments like hte desert for higher tolerance filtering

i would NOT pick fram. if their intakes are anything liek their oil filters they are a complete joke

Does one provide more of a power increase than the other?

IMHO Brute force is the way to go.

Check the filteration on the Brute force its like 1 micron. They have a good web page with good info. I bought mine at autoanything.com and used a coupon. So I saved a few dollars. Was there any major power gain? Hard to say I don't have any dyno time to tell. Now if you go to the wed page for fram and AEM I think they have pdf of dyno runs. I used those for some comparison. However you need to take them with a gain of salt.

Here's what was on my truck, except the air box mod. I've never had a problem with either dirt or water getting into the filter, and it breathes just as easy as anything else...

I have been playing with the IAT monitor in my Evo II and when I had the end of my air box was open I had IATs as high as 150*. When I sealed the airbox again, the IATs dropped to within a couple degrees of ambient.

And having an open cone filter is better how?

Then there's truly no point to an air tube, other than aesthitcs, right? If you have the stock air tube, and a stock airbor, then the motors getting ust as much air as with an air tube. These motors don't move enough air for it to make a difference. So here lies the real question: Is it better to have lower air flow and cooler IAT temps, or higher airflow and higher IAT temps? Anyone got a home dyno?

I never said they were. When IAT is discussed, it is the open element guys who are always spouting that underhood temps are the same or close to ambient. BS. Those open element "CAI" (cold air intake) are actually a "HAI" (hot air intake).

Like Socal said, Volant or Outlaw(never heard of them - have a link?). IceMan has a nice system too, and that is what I designed mine from.

Take out the tuner and you will lose those supposed 30/50 numbers.
I don't care what all the marketing hype says about the open intakes, I have NEVER seen one that could produce a HP increase that could be consistently replicated. Open intakes are worth nothing for mileage or performance.

Now, everyone that has one chime in and tell us about the big HP numbers you have and how your truck feels faster. It must be true, because it would be pretty stupid to spend $200+ on something that does nothing. Why don't you add a TB spacer while you are at it.
