Where do you ground the welder?
Where do you ground the welder?
I need to fix one of my exhaust hanger brackets that keeps breaking by putting a tack weld on the nut to hold it better. Where on the truck should I ground the welder? Also any precautions to take while welding? (Disconnect battery, etc.....)
Thanks

Disconnect negative battery terminal and clamp your ground on the frame if your welding on the frame. If your welding on the pipe, put the ground on the pipe itself just ahead about two or three feet of where your welding.

keep the ground close to the work area so the current doesn't travel through too much of the truck.
Disconnect the negative terminal and put the ground close to where you are grounding it. Make sure when you are not between where you are welding and the ground...or you will be the ground. Learned this the hard way.
Also I had the same problem with my hangers breaking...you might want to put two hangers on each pipe welded to the frame. That helped me out a lot and cause everytime I welded the hanger back it kept breaking.
