02 F150 Super Crew Duals??

I am definitely not very knowledgable in the exhaust area... My buddy has straight pipes on his 150 and I love the sound but I really dont like the idea of getting towed away if getting caught with it on the street or having a huge fine. I have tried to educate myself on this forum. I am thinking of getting two flowmaster 40's for true duals with stainless tips out diagonal out the back. Can you guys give me an average price? I live in KC and really dont want to get ripped off. Would I be better buying the two mufflers and tips on ebay and having a shop install it? What size pipes and tips do you recommend? My truck will be on 22's will the duals diagonal out the sides look good with 22's? I really dont like duals straight out the back. I think diagonal looks a lot better but I have never seen it on a truck with 22's. I want everything to be street legal but also maybe boost some performance. Later on I might upgrade and add some headers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes that setup will sound good. Make sure you get big tips put on. I would recommend getting 4 inch tips. The tips actually have a big affect on the sound. I had some short 3 and a half inch tips, cut them off and drove to the muffler shop. Put some long 4 inch ones and the sound was much better. As for flowmaster, I personally like them best, along with the true duals. Are you equalizing your duals?

Never heard of tip size changing sound??? The only thing I knew of other than the mufflers and length of pipe that would change the sound is stainless tubing.

If you like the sound of straight pipes I will make one suggestion, dumps.

Easiest and cheapest way to do it. Buy a 40 Series Flowmaster single in dual out. Have the muffler shop install the muffler and put two turn down tips on it right behind the muffler.

Yeah thats what most peole say, but most people never hear their truck without them cause they don't ever cut them off. The bigger the tip, the more it allows what sound you have to resonate in the tip. Do some searching you will understand what Im talking about.

I really don't know much at all about exhaust systems... how long of 4 inch tips should I look for? on my f350 I have a flowmaster 40 and just a down pipe. it sounds pretty good and didnt cost me much at all at the shop. I like the looks of the diagonal duals though. What do you mean by equalizing? as far as getting the two flowmasters, what size pipes in and out do i need for a 03 f150 supercrew? i want to get them on ebay to try to save some cash as I am a poor college student.

I understand being a college student! I am also. You should get at least 18 inch long tips, but I have 22 inch long x 4 inch diameter. Trust me, it will give you a deeper tone. What I meant by equalized, is if you get true duals, if you dont equalize the two sides of the engine exhaust, it will be louder, and more of a thumpy sound. If you have an h-pipe put in, it will equalize the two sides of the exhaust giving you a litter more power, and a smoother sound. My true duals are unequalized, just a personal preference I guess. Other than that, just have those 40 series flowmasters welded in, you just need 2.25 inch inlet and outlet, or 2.5 inch diameter inlet/outlet. If you have an exhaust shop do it, they can flange the pipes to fit the flowmaster inlet/outlets. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info! I'm trying to save every little bit that I can so I am going to look on eBay for my tips and flowmasters and then just have a shop install it. I'm a college athlete so I am not very well off when it comes to money plus I'm not near as knowledgeable as you guys!

I got my stainless 4 inch tips on ebay, just got to ebay motors and type in exhaust tips. It will bring up lots of pages of tips. Bought mine for 55 dollars. Not bad for stainless steel! Good luck

Yeah mine are the 45 degree slash cut, it would be around 80-100 dollars for them to install it all, if you bought all the stuff...
