Another Exhaust ? -- Magnaflow DI/SO
All the magnaflow mufflers are reversible right???
So I was thinking. If I get rid of the stock y-pipe and run 2 2.5" pipes to this muffler: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=463
THen run 1 pipe out the back it should be good right? Anyone care to list pros/cons?
I don't have the cash for true duals or anything and i want to eliminate the damn y-pipe.
Let me know!!!! My BDay is coming up and I need to decide fast!@!!!

I believe the DI/DO maggie is 114 at summit racing which is less than the SI/DO you listed. Just save your money and do true duals you wont be unhappy. Are you wanting to go out the back or the side before the tires? When I had my true duals they charged me 583 total for 2 cats,x-pipe,muffler and tips. out of the 583 it was 32 for the exhaust pipe and 100 labor. So in buying the muffler from summit and taking it to a local shop you should be able to get you r pipes and tips for around 150 pluse the muffler from summit for 125 after shipping for a total less than 300. If that is to much money then i would just save until you get it right the first time. my .02
Ok, first of I did do it right the first time but I wasnt satisfied with the sound. First time SI/DO flowmaster original 40 series tailpipes out the back of the truck with dual tips 175.00. Second time had original flowmaster moved forward and removed rear pipes had new ones exit in front of tire with new tips 100.00 . 3rd time is the charm Pace setter long tube headers 3" maggie cats, maggie x-pipe, maggie DI/DO muffler, new exhaust pipe and IMCO tips 987.00 . Had I just waited and did the exhaust the way I wanted to in the first place I would of saved 275. First exhaust 100 pipes and tips, second exhaust 100 pipes and tips, third exhaust 135 pipes.
What I am saying is the expense is going to be the muffler. Pipes and the generic round tips are pennies to a muffler shop if you spend more than 100 on pipes and tips then you are spending too much at that shop. I did my muffler work at two different shops 1 + 2 same shop 3 at a different shop. 3rd shop actually beat summit racing prices with shipping after taxes so I had them order everything I wanted minus the headers.
My true duals are on a un modified F150 engine wise(soon to have xcallII and AF1) all I can say is this is the way it should of come from the factory. I have not lost low end torque and I have increased top end passing. Bottom line is you have to Pay to Play anything else is just wasted money.
I gave you my opinon on the exhaust seeing that you have made dozens of post about it. Trying to give you some insite before you choose and waste money on something you are unhappy with. FYI I am doing my wifes truck cutting out the Y-pipe and installing the x-pipe, DI/DO maggie and side exit exhaust and the muffler shop is only going to charge me 280 for everything(180 for x-pipe and muffler) 210 with out the x-pipe. The reason I am not going with the internal x-pipe is because were the muffler is going to be installed it is too far away to be of any use, x-pipe needs to be as close to original y as possible.
As you can see it can be done for not a lot of money you just have to shop around for the best muffler shop.

Well first off sometimes people on here don't respond to questions people ask and give their opinion on what you should do or they will give you their opinion about you, I have had both. I don't see any reason it is not reversable because it is the same thing as the stock y but with holes in it to reduce the sound some. The only pro or con is a pro and that is you are removing the stock muffler which restricts some flow.
If nothing else Huitt24, at least kept his low end and more than likely gained some with that set up. That is why I plan on doing that, not because of lost back pressure (which is a load of BS), but for the scavaging. Your truck will be just as loud as mine which currently has SI/DO flowmaster, the cats are what make it rather quiet. I can explain more tomorrow, fixing to leave work.

ok, final decision
Here is what I've decided to go with.
Magnaflow Y-Pipe: Magnaflow Y-Pipe 3" 2.5" S/D Alzd -- #10778
Magnaflow Muffler: 5x8 Aluminized 14" Body, 3" C/O -- #12229
Magnafow Tip: Tip Slash Cut 4.00" x 12" 3.00" ID 15deg -- #35107
The center/offset is the right muffler, correct? I think that's what comes with the 15609 Cat-Back.
My last question(I think) is how much of a difference will it make if I don't remove the stock ypipe. Shops keep giving me a hard time about it and raising the price on me. Also, I might do the ypipe but reduce the piping to 2.5 to save some cash. So which would be better...3" with stiock Y pipe or 2.5" with aftermarket Y-pipe?
Thanks for everyone's patience. Sorry Huitt24 for snapping at you...your exhaust rocks and I am jealous
Edit: Man, every farkin place I call tells me that the magnaflow are too quiet now they got me all confused again.

You might want to stick with the stock Y and save some money because I really don't think it will help in the sound or performance. For the loudest muffler go with the C/C one. The offset pushes more gases and sound into the small holes because the gas and sound are traveling straight and are suddenly forced to turn, therefore "rubbing" against the outside of the turn.
I have one question, why don't you wait and save your money for at least the maggie with the built in x pipe and make it true duels? This will give you better sound and performance guaranteed. Whats the rush?
Oh yea, I not sure but I think the stock pipes are 2.25", so I suggest a 2.5" pipe because if you go too big the gases will cool and become more dense and the engine will work harder to push those gases out the tail pipe.

The stock piping is 2.5"....I'm pretty sure. Let me ask you this....If I get the Maggie DI/DO can I just use that as the x pipe, or should I put an external xpipe on. Everywhere I hear says you want the x pipe as close to the cats as possible.
If I don't need an external x-pipe, then I may go that route. I would use 2.25" pipe if I went true duals.

Hi.
Don't forget to get a length of 2.5" mandrel-bent pipe to connect to the left side cat... as described here:
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...atalogno=10778
Also I think the muffler in the #15609 is an 18-incher, so a 14" would be a bit louder. I use a 24" and I find it just right, for me.
Don't scrimp on the Y pipe - it's only $30-$35.. yeah I know some shops will gouge you because it's a bit of a pita to install (escpecially on a 4x4 where the clearance near the crossmember is tricky). But, once you see how restrictive the factory Y can be (they vary), you'l be glad you changed it.
My guy took about an hour to fabricate the short pieces from the left & right cats (both 2.5" in), the mid-pipe upgrade to 3" to the 3" muffler inlet, install & align the Y, and re-engineer the hanger at the tranny mount. Charged me $50 install (CDN), plus another $31 (CDN) for the #10778. Took his time 'cause I asked him to, and it's a nice clean sano job that looks and sounds great.
Sound and volume are very personal preferences - sorry but only you can decide... can't really help you there...
Cheers
Grog

I like your first idea better, replace the OEM y-pipe with a better one. A 90 degree mandrel bent elbow and a SIDO muffler reversed would be great with a 3" pipe.
Go SIDO for the look.
Go DIDO for unique sound.
Go SO for cheap performance and more soudn than stock.

I'm gonna call around/visit some shops to see how much they'd charge for that.
Does everyone think my original idea is stupid? It's basically the same thing as using a Tru-X muffler just with a single out. I just need to know if there is any issue with using the muffler as a merge pipe rather than an external pipe.
