Newbie here...flowmaster help

howdee just got a 2006 f150 supercrew with the 5.4 and love it. You all seem to be very experienced with the fords so please help me....I want a flowmaster cat back (I know some of you seem to like other brands but I dig the Flowmaster sound) and I want a throaty sounding exhaust. I listen to their website but hard to tell. What I want is very deep, loud but not obnoxious, and not crazy loud in the truck on highway. I mean I want to hear the radio not go deaf from the pipes (did that for years on my Harleys ). Please help and if there are any sound clips or videos I would HUGELY appreciate it.

Which 'series' muffler should I get do you think???

The 50 series is calm at idle, and lets its prescence be known above 3000RPM. The 40 series is the most popular version. The 40series with deltaflow technology will give you that true flowmaster sound all around, a good deep idle with a wide azz open screamer, yet be calm during highway speed for radio function. I run a pair of 40 series with three inch pipe and can talk to my wife at 90MPH no problem. It is loud behind us though!

I like my 40 series on my 04 5.4 4x4 Crew. Only did the muffler swap in the stainless 40 Deltaflow. Installed for $180 including SS short pipe. No drone and not loud in the cabin.

you do not have to add a whole cat back system? you can add only the silencer?

that would be inexpensive....does the whole cat back add to performance or just sound better?

I put a Flowmaster 40 series on my 2001 F-150 5.4L and I love it. Loud enough to notice but not too loud to be annoying.

I had a Flowmaster 40 SIDO put on to replace stock muffler. Ran both pipes out the back with stainless tips. Cost for everything was $225 at a local shop. It is quiet in side unless accelerating.

The more you read the threads on this subject, the more you realize that Flowmaster seems to be the preferred choice. Great sound and not stupidly $$$. I changed from Magnoflow to Flowmaster about a year ago and I love it. The only change I might make is running the dual tips out behind the rear tire. I think that will deepen the tone a little more.

That, and bigger tips will make it louder (think of a megaphone)

I think my pipes are 2 1/2", the tips are 3" diam, 18" long.

wedge, i just put true duals with original 40 series on my trucka and I love it. The guy said SI/DO would have been louder and to me that would be too loud.

See my other posts here above where I took pictures!

I just got my truck about a month ago. Put 40 Series Flows on it 2 weeks ago. I LOVE IT!!! 40 FLOWS are the way to go. I have the LineX Spray in Bedliner which could help with sound deadening, but the cab noise is minimal.
Did I mention I LOVE IT!!

Lot's of opinions, I'll add one more. The most restrictive area on the exhaust is at the factory Y-pipe. Real small hole from the drivers side into the passenger side pipe. I originally had a 50 series to replace the factory muffler, didn't change any pipes. Now have dual 2 1/2" pipes into a single DI/SO Flowmaster SUV 50 series with a single 3" tailpipe. Quite happy. Got rid of factory Y-pipe, didn't need another Y,X or H pipe as exhaust blends in the muffler. Not real loud, good overall sound and keeps the "factory" look.
