IMCO Extreme + Magnaflow Y

Hey dudes.

I think I'm gonna purchase the below parts. I have a question on the Y-pipe though...is that thing reversible? Because on all the Y-Pipes on their web site, they make it look like they are SI/DO rather than DI/SO.

Magnaflow Y-Pipe
IMCO Muffler

And What does everyone think about this setup. I will probably just take it to a shop to weld everything in. Will this lose too much backpressure? What about if I get the SI/DO(2.5"/2.25") IMCO Extreme muffler...would that lose too much backpressure and lost TQ?

Thanks for you patience with all the questions!!

Oh...one more Q.....

To those who have the IMCO Extreme, is there a lot of internal resonance?

If it makes any difference I just retroed my exhaust. Went from the Magnaflow muffler to a Borla. The Muffler was si/do 3"/2.5 the shop expanded the outlet to 3" to fit my existing dual pipes. They also changed my 2.25 after cat to 3" to muffler. I havent felt any power or pressure loss if this helps. They also welded where the bands would not snug up

Hi.

I think you are on the right track, at least in terms of pipe sizing. Remeber, it's not 'backpressure' you need to be concerned with... refer to this post for info on sizing and backpressure ( post # 11):

As for the Y pipe, I believe the Magnaflow is reversible. I used it to replace my factory Y in a DI/SO ( 2.5" --> 3"), but going the other way is fine as long as you keep the pipe diameters correct.

The Imco - my exhaust guy says the single chamber Imco and the flowmasters are effectively the same internally ( he's cut enough mufflers open in 40+ years to know), but the Imco is cheaper. Most folks here say they are loud; some say they also drone. I use Magnaflow on everything I own myself.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Grog

I'm running a 11" Maggie. Sounds pretty loud. A little droney in the cab with the lower gears but at freeway speeds you dont even notice it.

cool dude, what muffler do you have? Do you know the inlet/outlet size? Also, what motor do you have?

The Magnaflow part # is 11366. It is 2.5" in/out. Got it on ebay for $67 with shipping and had the local muffler shop weld it in with the stock pipes. Also put in a 12" rolled Magnaflow tip in the stock location. My truck is an '05 Scab with the 5.4L. It's an XL but I recently put in a Code Alarm keyless entry and power windows with express up/down for both widows. Not too shabby. I see you have the Troyer fans. Were they hard to install?

Yes they were hard to install. This was my second time too. I like the setup, with the 2 fans for redundancy and stuff. But if I was going to do it again, I'd get the JDM setup that comes with the shroud.

kr1mson k1ng, I thought you wanted a muffler with a x pipe thru it? Change your mind already?

MGDfan, or caveman I should say. I don't know if you remember from a post a year ago, but you should have took that as a compliment, because I thought I saw you on that Geico commerical. Which by the way you can't buy anything that I design because I design roads, so you kind of have no choice in that matter. Also, you and Mike both seem rather eager to explain how things work a lot more. I wonder why? Way to go on picking up my poor grammer after someone else points it out. Anyhow, I'm sorry with the way I resopended to you all, but I needed to know how stuff works in order to make my own assesment, instead of relying on someones advise on what to do. Like my brother-in-law has 3" duals on his pos 350 GMC, and he advises everyone to us 3" pipes to give better sound and flow. And someone not knowing what happens would say ok, and go do it. The one thing I learned is ask people to explain in detail, and if they can't, then don't follow their advise. I'm just wanting to make everything cosher, I don't like having enemies. One more thing, would you rather have an engineer to be good at his math or be someone who can type up a well written novel?
