E-Fan or exhaust?
Hey all,
Trying to plan out the next area or attack for an '06 5.4L. I'm debating between FAL e-fans or a Magnaflow SI/SO exhaust. Both are on the list of things to come and cost roughly the same cost. Due to the high cost of gas lately, I've been leaning towards the efans, but want the truck to finally sound like a truck. Always the want versus need thing. I've seen the adds saying that efans add 1-2.5 MPG, any word of it really happening that way or just the performance gains from the reduced parasitic loss?
So far the only performance mods are an Airaid CAI and a Superchips tuner that I am going to exchange for an Edge (Fiance bought it, shop will allow a trade without restocking fee). Thanks and sorry if I am repeating a post of this same question.

It all depends on want, if you want mileage, go efans. They seem to be gettin' me better mileage. However, going with a nice exhaust gives sound and personally is my favorite. Power and mileage gains are there, but not much. Power was noticed with the efans and mileage is still bieng figured as I've had them for a short while.
No, it was the other guy that did that, the u/d pullies I mean. I would have to say it was noticeable in power, but nothing crazy, you'll notice though. It is more noticed than the exhaust, that'll just make you happy due to sound.
E-fans will certainly help in the mileage dept for sure. If you wanted to improve your exhaust sound and save money, just do a muffler swap...I did a flowmaster swap and quite happy with the sound and price.

honestly, the e fans gave me MAYBE 1 or 2 miles more, with about an estimated 20 more horses. i am getting a dyno next week so the results will be a lil more clearer

I can't really say which mod would be better for horsepower but for pure pleasure and sound, go w/the exhaust. A truck should sound like a truck. There's nothing like the sound of Detroit V-8 power coming out of an unrestricted muffler. I have both efans and exhaust (not to mention Superchips programmer and underdrive pulleys) but I wasn't looking specifically for more mileage as I was power. Even if I didn't gain any power (and I think I have, even though I haven't dynoed it), I love the sound.
If it's the power you want, then go with the E-Fans. I'd say go with the exhaust just for the sound and cool factor. Everybody will know that you will have an exhaust. Nobody except for you will know about the E-Fans.
