Flowmaster vs. Borla
Flowmaster vs. Borla
I am about to have a true dual exhaust system ran on my truck and wanted some input on which mufflers would be best. I am not going to run echo chambers. Going to cut off the pipes up under the bed about where the back bumper and bed meet. I want them hidden. Anyway, the place I'm going offers Flowmaster and Borla. The guy said the Borla was a little bit quieter than the Flowmaster. Since I'm not going with echo chambers I'm wondering if the Borla would be too quite. Not sure what type of Borla muffler he offers but know that the Flowmaster is a 40 series. All input is greatly appreciated.
For what its worth when I went to get my exhaust I had the option of Flowmaster, Borla, and Magnaflow. The Flowmaster sound is too played out and too common for me, I have always had Magnaflow which I love but wanted to try something different. The sales guy talked me out of Borla. He said for the price difference it is just NOT worth it. So I have Magnaflow, its ok, but could be louder.
i have flowmaster and wouldn't run anything else. i've got the 50 series suv/performance and its a great muffler. its not real loud at idle but when you get on it the cars move out of your way. when i first got it i was kinda dissapointed because it wasn't that loud but now it sounds totally different. i will put this muffler on all of my trucks from now on. i almost got the 40 series but imo the 50 sound better. hope this help.
This is a tough one to really nail down. Everybody has an opinion on what muffler is the best sounding, but it all comes down to personal taste. They're all low restriction mufflers, they just produce different sounds. I started with the Magnaflow and thought it was too tame, I switched to the Flowmaster 40 series and I really enjoy it. It's a 3" SIDO side mounted set-up like the Lightnings. Mild rumble at idle, wake up the neighbors at W.O.T. I heard Borla's also, not a bad choice either. Which ever one you go with, just get rid of that choking stock muffler. Good luck.

If you are running a true dual all of those mufflers are going to be loud!!
Correct me if I am wrong.
1) You are going to have two one 1 and one out mufflers
2)The intensity of the sound will also depend on weather you replace stock cats with high-flow cats.

All that set aside. Flowmaster 40 series. With cowboy cut pipes.

the magnaflow muffler is a cheaper version of the borla muffler. they both use stainless casings, stainless perforated tubing, and ceramic fiber packing. if you want a straight-thru flow design and you don't want to pay too much then get a magnaflow. if you are looking for the classic tone of a flowmaster than go with the flowmaster. in my opinion you can't go wrong with a flowmaster.
Go with the flows becuase they are cheaper and they are durable so they will last you if you take good care of them. If you are going for noise the difference is flowmaster has a higher pitch sounds, while borla has a lower bass sound. But i would go with flows because they are just what you need for a vehicle that you take care of, but now if you want the best you can get borla is all the way. Flowmaster is better durability but borla is by far better quality.
My brother had dynomax on his f150 99' and the quality of it just didnt work out.
A lot of maintence on them but it doesnt matter.
Its the man who buys what he wants so if he wants dynomax, flows, magnaflows, or borla he can get whatever he wants.
