Question Pipes out the side?

I love how my 97' F150's pipe comes out the side. But is it possible to make dual pipes, one for each side. I did notice that the gas tank is gonna make it difficult on the left side. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure of any differences in the way the fuel tank is mounted between '97 and 2000. But here is my 2000 with dual's exiting one on each side. This is a cat-back exhaust not a true dual but I love the way it sounds and I like having the side exits. You can see both pipes in the one picture, unfortunately I don't have a picture looking straight at the back. Here's the drivers side:

but he's referring to a 97, which exits in front of the right rear tire instead of behind. I'm sure he wants both to exit in front, but he didn't specify.....

sorry bout that. But yea, the pipe comes in front of the rear right wheel. My truck is a stepside. So i don't know if that changes anything or not. I wish i had picture of it, but i haven't had the truck long. Have ya'll ever seen or heard of anybody putting duals in front of the wheels one on each side?

My only concern would be....

the exhaust fumes effects on the object behind them. I have a 97 and I just had my pipe extended to exit behind the rear tire. My centercap on that side had turned colors and I found the right rear hub to be rusting. I cleaned and painted my hubs and then changed the exit location of my pipe. If it's effecting these items, I'm sure it's effecting others. To each his own. Just giving you some friendly info.

You beat me to it lol. My rear pss side rim gets dirty about 10x's faster than the rest. I have Polished Alumn Rims and if I go too long without cleaning the rear Pass side rim it starts looking painted. After a while I just cut the pipe and put a turn down on the muffler. No more dirty rims, no exhaust pipes sticking out from under the truck and it resonates a bit more too.

I have found that nomatter where you mount your exhaust tips on a truck eventually the pipes get out of whack with each other, start moving a bit too much and generaly take away from the look of the truck so from here on out I will always just use turndowns.

i also have a 97...dont know if u guys knew but a few years back there was a recall on the exhuast system due to the discoloration of the rim...took it in and got the regular put on coming out behind the tire...no charge...

recently put the flowmasters on with the straight pipes out the back, thought about bringing them out infront of the tires again but as u said the clearence wasnt that well and i didnt want discoloration again....but who knows...just know that if u put them in front of the tires that u are more than likely to get discoloration on your rims within a few days of each cleaning...

I had them run straight out the back on my '97 and was forever cleaning exhaust crud off of (and out of) the paint on the tailgate. It was white and would get "rail dust" rust spots all in the paint in two week's time from the exhaust blowing up the tailgate.

Just an .

I don't think there's any way to avoid some sort of exhaust/contamination problem other than maybe directly behind the tires or just doing the turndown.

I've had mine behind the tires for 3 years and never had any contamination problems

Really? Dad and I love the 97's in front of the rear tire. Never noticed the rim getting any more dirty than the others. Really handy when backing up to a mulch/stone/dirt pile.
