exhaust and negative cable disconnect

hey guys! my question regards the process of taking the negative battery off when installing an exhuast system . Doesn't the computer have enough "sense" to compensate for the different flow rates? I have the impression that this process was to reset the computer and let it "relearn" the parameters of the sensors. My truck is a 2005 supercab 5.4 3.55 with a corsa touring system and I feel like it has a flat spot at part throttle!! The dealer has "reflashed my ecm" once when I had a magnaflow setup and it felt very crisp compared to now!!!! When I insalled the corsa , I didn't take the battery cable loose as I didn't see the point ! The dealer has advised that once the ecm is reflashed ,it will stay that way ! I'm lost !! RJ

When working on vehicles, it's easy to short out a live wire. This is no big deal if the battery is disconnected, but if the circuit is live, it can set your truck on fire.

That aside, When you're welding on your truck, it sends electricity all through it. It can fry your computer in special circumstances. I've seen it! It's also important to ground near where you are welding. If you ground, say, on your reciever hitch, then you don't know what path the electricity will follow. It may decide to detour though a couple of bearing grease seals!!!! I've seen this happen too!!

Ya know, its funny... I'm not solid on this, however I've come to notice that each time I reset the ECM, the truck runs differently each time I do- even if I haven't added/deleted any modifications.

One setting seems to let loose the bull under the hood, mileage is so-so. Another gives me really good mileage, yet not as much power. The last one is in between- almost making the truck run like it was stock again.

I've yet to test this thoroughly as time hasn't permitted, but I'll have time this week to see if this is correct.

Does anyone know if the stock ECM's have 3 different flash readings (or more) programmed into them?

TIA

Hi.

Read through this thread - it may help.

As for the stock PCM - no, it can only hold ONE flash.

Cheers
